LHS investigation turned over to law enforcement
LIBERTY — According to a release from School District of Pickens County communications director Julie Thompson, the investigation into Liberty High School’s financial records has been turned over to police.
Thompson said the Liberty Police Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are handling the situation.
“The district is cooperating with the agencies in the investigation,” Thompson said.
LHS principal Randy Gilstrap and secretary Buea DeNard were placed on administrative leave after a random audit of the school’s records began last Friday.

Bike ride planned to benefit food bank
PICKENS — The first ever “Canned Food Run” bike ride to benefit the Gleaning House will be held on April 9.
The event will help provide needed canned food items for the Gleaning House, a local food bank in Pickens.
All bikes and bikers will meet at noon on the corner of S.C. 8 and S.C. 183 in Pickens. Bikes will be leaving the parking lot at 1 p.m. All bikers are asked to bring three nonperishable food items to donate to Gleaning House. Everyone is welcome to take part.
The ride will end with a free concert. Door prizes will be given, as will trophies for the oldest bike and the best looking bike.

CUPD releases sketch of robbery suspect
CLEMSON — The Clemson University Police Department has released a composite sketch of a suspect in the robbery of an on-campus pharmacy last week.
Officers said the man walked into the pharmacy at Redfern Health Center Monday, Feb. 14, at 8:24 a.m. and handed a note to pharmacists ordering them to give him drugs.
Police said he did not show a weapon, but held his hand inside a dark tote bag as though he had one. He left the health center on foot with two bottles of pills, officers said.
The man is described as white, about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 175 pounds. He was wearing sunglasses and a gray hooded jacket with orange Clemson letters.

Cannon Hospital donates AED to Pickens Recreation
PICKENS — Cannon Memorial Hospital recently donated an Automated External Defibulator (AED) to the Pickens Recreation Complex as an added measure of safety for their programs.
The AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias and treats them through defibrillation, oftentimes saving someone’s life.
Roger Boatwright named Physician of the Quarter
EASLEY — Baptist Easley Hospital recently named Roger Boatwright, M.D., the Cam Underhill Practicing Excellence Physician of the Quarter. The award is based on the Baptist Easley Medical Staff Standards of Behavior: Integrity, Compassion, and Competence.
