Wreck with SLED agent kills man
EASLEY — An Easter Sunday wreck on U.S. 183 has left a 61-year-old Greenville man dead and a veteran SLED officer injured.
School board OKs first reading of new budget
COUNTY — The School District of Pickens County’s board of trustees voted unanimously to accept the first reading of its 2011-2012 budget Monday night, marking the first official step toward the cutting of dozens of SDPC jobs.

Groundbreaking scheduled for Rock Art Center at Hagood Mill
PICKENS — Pickens County will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the South Carolina Rock Art Center at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, at the Hagood Mill site, located at 138 Hagood Mill Road in Pickens.
The Rock Art Center will house Native American petroglyphs which exist on a rock face located on the Hagood Mill property.
“The addition of the Rock Arts Center to Pickens County’s landscape will bring an increased number of visitors to the area,” said Pickens County administrator Chap Hurst. “The Center will add to the cultural and historical landmarks which already exist at the mill.”
Allen Coleman, executive director of the Pickens County Museum, said the Rock Art Center will be a boost to tourism in Pickens County.

PICKENS — Cannon Memorial Hospital recently launched a new advertising campaign in the community aimed at making people aware of the benefits of digital mammography and the fact that the hospital now has the latest technology in the early detection of breast cancer.

PICKENS — A work day has been scheduled for this Saturday, April 30, at 9 a.m. at the Hagood Senior Center on Schoolhouse Street in Pickens.
Community flocks to 2nd annual Wings & Wheels for Meals event
LIBERTY — The second annual Wings and Wheels event proved itself as a community favorite for a second year. The warm and sunny weather made it an ideal way to enjoy the day. Upon approach, it was evident that the members of the Pickens County Airport Commission and Pilots Association are passionate about aviation and are proud to showcase the airport’s new facility.
