COUNTY — Monday night Pickens County Council voted 5-1 to pursue legal action against the city of Clemson regarding use of tax increment tax district finance (TIF) money.
Councilman Jeff Martin, who represents the Clemson area, provided the only negative vote.
Martin said the county should delay action considering the recent death of Clemson Mayor Larry Abernathy and the upcoming election of a new mayor.

PICKENS — The sights and sounds of spring will soon be in the air, as plans are well under way for the 28th annual Pickens Azalea Festival, scheduled for April 20-21.
The annual Classic Car Cruise-In on Main Street will kick things off Friday night at 7 p.m. Classic cars, jeeps and other vehicles restored to their original beauty will fill downtown Pickens, offering visitors a chance to revisit their past, while introducing their children and grandchildren to the glory days of automobiles.

PICKENS — The old water tower that stands watch over the city of Pickens will soon get a new look.
City council voted during its regular monthly meeting on Monday night to have portions of the structure repainted with the city’s new logo. The logo will face towards town and will be able to be seen coming into town up U.S. 178 and all along Main Street.

The Easley High School Rugby Club won its first-ever home game last Friday night at Pope Field, a 34-0 victory against Greenville High’s Team 2. Since the club’s formation in 2009, all home games had been played at Furman’s John Roberts Rugby Pitch prior to last Friday. For more information about the game and Easley rugby, turn to page 5A.

SIX MILE — A local newspaper called it the “greatest single tragedy ever to lay a blow on Pickens County,” and now the town of Six Mile will pass a resolution to remember the impact a devastating 1929 tornado had on the community.

After 3County Pro Wrestling’s “Loaded Gunz” Ken Magnum visited Liberty mayor Michael Sheriff’s office last month to issue a challenge, the mayor used his connections to bring Gunner of television’s TNA/Impact Wrestling to Liberty Middle for the promotion’s show last Saturday night. In front of a sold-out crowd, Gunner defeated Magnum in a one-on-one match. Other wrestlers who competed in the show included former WCW and WWE star the Barbarian and Ricky Morton of legendary tag team the Rock N’ Roll Express.

COUNTY — In the last two weeks, the SHINE Dream Center project has leapt onto the radar of many in Pickens County, as the school district’s board of trustees debated at a meeting last week whether or not it should vote to sell the current Pickens Middle School property for the project.

CENTRAL — In the migration that peopled the soaring Carolina border country, in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, two lumbering oxen pulled the wagons of the well-to-do (others were glad to have one ox, and some had only their feet).

PICKENS — The eighth annual Charles F. Rogers Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 12.
The tournament, which annually benefits a male and female senior basketball player from Pickens High School planning to attend a university, college or technical school, is set to kick off with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start at Pickens Country Club.
