Juliette Gordon Low’s legacy lives on through Girl Scouts
Juliette Gordon Low organized the first Girl Scout Troop on March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia. This month marks the centennial anniversary of the foundation of the Girl Scouts.

Carmon Cassell
Pickens — Amos Carmon Cassell, 75, husband of Faye Hoxit Cassell, died Thursday, March 1, 2012.
Carmon was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Robert and Bertha Cassell. He was retired from Holly Springs Elementary School as custodian and also was a bus driver for 14 years. He was a member of Eastatoe Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Faye of the home, step-son Markus Bates of Pickens, step daughters Frinda Jackson of Westminster, and Opal Bates of Liberty, five grandchildren Jason, Christy, Jeremy, Joseph and Jessica and one great grandchild. Also surviving are brothers, Cartee Cassell and Clifton Cassell both of Pickens and sisters, Christine Lewis and Carrie Lee Lewis both of Pickens and Cleon Meece of Easley.
Funeral services were conducted 3 p.m. Monday, March 5 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
