Lions’ Brown inks with Newberry
CENTRAL — When National Signing Day rolled around last month, Marcus Brown had the opportunity to sign a National Letter of Intent with a number of schools that were interested in him.
But despite having those options in front of him, the Daniel High School senior chose not to pull the proverbial trigger, as he wasn’t quite ready to put ink to paper.

Eleanor Ruth Smith
Central — Eleanor Ruth Holliday Smith, 87, of 294 Knollview Road died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at her residence.
Born in Six Mile she was the widow of Homer Charles Smith and a daughter of the late Vester Henry and Lillie Kelley Holliday. She retired from Pratt Reed and her hobbies included gardening, flowers, and quilting. She was a longtime member of Gap Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Norma Aiken and her husband Ronnie of Easley, and Nancy McJunkin of the home; a son, Kenneth Smith and his wife of Central; a sister in law, Martha Stancil of Liberty; two grandchildren, Kevin & Ashley Smith.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Smith were 3 p.m. Tuesday at Gap Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
