Bank of America robbed

PICKENS – Two men were quickly arrested following an armed robbery at the Bank of America in Pickens on Monday.
According to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday afternoon just after 4:30 pm, they received a 9-1-1 call from the Bank of America in Pickens about an armed robbery.
Officers from the Pickens Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office responded immediately.

Wounded Warriors ride through county

COUNTY — Easley once again proudly participated in the “Honoring Their Service” ride as part of the Wounded Warriors’ annual trip to Keowee Key on Monday, June 18. The event honors Marines and acknowledges their sacrifice on behalf of all Americans.
Heralding from Camp LeJeune, N.C., event participants met at the J.B. “Red” Owens Complex at 2 p.m. Monday and prepared for their 3 p.m. departure. Along with members of the Easley Police Department, more than 400 vehicles – motorcycles, Jeeps, and Hummers – escorted the honored warriors down U.S. 123.

Voters will again head to the poll next Tuesday in county

COUNTY — After a tight initial race in last week’s Republican primary, Rick Clark and David Stone will battle next Tuesday in a runoff for the right to face independent candidate Keith Culbreath in November’s elections.

Pickens man charged with armed robbery

EASLEY – A Pickens man is facing charges of armed robbery after police say they believe he robbed a convenient store in Easley last Thursday.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on June 14 the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office says, a male subject, wearing a mask, entered the Spinx store located 3785 Farrs Bridge Road in Easley.

Hunt reflects on 41-year career in school district

After an admirable 41 years of service to the School District of Pickens County, Dr. Henry Hunt will be retiring as district superintendent in July. As a reporter covering SDPC board meetings and events, I have had the chance to talk to Dr. Hunt briefly for a quote here and there after meetings; however, before he officially retired, I wanted the opportunity to be able to sit down and really talk with him, if only for a few moments.

‘I Fan the Flame’ program recognizes Don Gravely

PICKENS — Don Gravely, long time Pickens barber and owner of Gravely’s Barber Shop on Main Street, was recognized as the June recipient of the city’s I Fan the Flame award. Created by the city of Pickens and the Pickens Revitalization Association, the award honors individuals that have supported and contributed to the community in extraordinary ways – those who have demonstrated a passion for helping make Pickens a great place to live, work and play.

Hester spends Father’s Day at Pickens First

PICKENS — It was a special Father’s Day celebration Sunday at First Baptist Church Pickens.
Pastor Fred Stone and his wife Lisa were out of town for the Southern Baptist Convention and Pastor’s Conference, being held in New Orleans. So First Baptist decided to keep it in the family by inviting Dr. Jack Hester to speak at the two morning services at the church.

Easley Fourth of July Festival set for 2 days

EASLEY — On July 3 and 4 Easley plans to celebrate America.
The festivities will begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday the July 3 and go until 10 p.m. that night. The festival will reopen at 2 p.m. on the Wednesday, July 4 and continue until 11 p.m. that evening.

EASLEY — The announcement of the Host District 1 Big League team on June 18 officially marked the countdown to the Big League World Series which this year is presented by Dosher Physical Therapy, Ogeltree Law Firm, the City of Easley, and Kelly’s Pharmacy.
