Four survive plane crash near airport

COUNTY — Four people are safe despite going down in a small single-engine plane near the Pickens County airport on Sunday.
The plane, which was headed to Greensboro, N.C., was experiencing engine problems when the Pickens County Airport was notified that the craft would need to make an emergency landing.

Liberty postmaster retires after many years of service

LIBERTY — Joe Dunlap began his career as a clerk and carrier with the United States Postal Service at the Pendleton post office in 1983. On Friday, July 20, after 29 years of service, he retired as postmaster from the Liberty post office.

Man drowns at Gap Hill

SIX MILE — The Pickens County Dive Team pulled the body of a 36-year-old man from the waters of Lake Keowee in the morning hours on Monday.

Big League World Series action now under way

The Big League World Series began for the 12th time in Easley Tuesday night with a home run derby and concert at Easley’s J.B. “Red” Owens Complex. SWU gets major gift

CENTRAL — Southern Wesleyan University’s Nicholson-Mitchell Ministry Center campaign recently took a big step forward as the result of a $182,000 gift from one Alumnus, the Rev. Albert Payne.
The center, to be located in the current First Wesleyan Church/ALIVE building, located on the campus in central, will train future generations for Christian service.

Pickens’ revitalization moves ahead

PICKENS — The Pickens Revitalization Association (PRA) has completed the public meetings relative to its charrette project and has vital information they are ready to incorporate into a master development plan for the city of Pickens.

Longhorn Steakhouse coming to Easley

EASLEY — Longhorn Steakhouse will soon be moving into Easley Town Center, after traffic changes were approved at Monday night’s meeting of Easley City Council.
The ordinance officially made the entrance to Longhorn’s property inside city limits.
“So Longhorn will have free access to their property,” mayor Larry Bagwell said.

Field Set For BLWS

EASLEY — The final regional qualifying tournament for the Big League World Series was finished Sunday afternoon, so now all that remains is 11 teams from across the world gathering in Easley this week to determine the best 15-18 year-old baseball team in the world.
The host team is South Carolina District 1, hoping to win its first title since 2007, when the locals took the crown for the fourth time in five years. Gregg Powell, city of Easley athletic director, has served as the manager for each of the four title teams.

Rosa Lee Bryant
Easley — Rosa Lee Stegall Bryant, 81, of Easley, wife of the late John C. Bryant, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late William M. and Laura Henrietta McNeely Stegall, Mrs. Bryant retired from Stone Manufacturing Company and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving are a brother, Tom Stegall of Pelzer; three sisters, Ann Armstrong and Doris Holliday, both of Easley and Marion Johnson of Mauldin; and 18 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bryant was predeceased by three sisters, Evelyn Finley and Betty Lollis and Frances Baker.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The body is at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday where the family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Rock Springs Baptist Church, 201 Rock Springs Road, Easley, SC 29642.
Family members are at their respective homes.
