Grandmother and father found guilty in child’s ‘08 death
PICKENS — A father and grandmother charged in the death of a 22-month-old child in 2008 were found guilty last Friday in a Pickens County courtroom.
Area quilter exhibiting work in international competition
Paducah, Ky. — An Easley-area quilter has been selected as a semifinalist for the 2012 AQS Quilt Show & Contest, August 22-25, at the DeVos Place Convention Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Paige Alexander has been chosen to display the quilt, Grandmama’s Legacy of Flowers, along with 357 others in the first year of this annual contest.
Museum announces schedule for Fall/Winter 2012 Herb Class series
PICKENS — Registration is now open for the Pickens County Museum’s Fall-Winter 2012 series of Herb Classes with instructor Robin McGee. The classes, all to be held at the Hagood Mill Historic Site & Folklife Center, are designed for adults and are very hands-on.
McGee is a community herbalist, organic gardener, herbal medicine-maker, writer and herbal educator now living in Anderson. She has been studying, using and creating herbal medicines and products for more than a decade.
Preseason football starts this week
COUNTY — All four Pickens County high schools got started with football practice last Friday, and the teams are already ready to hit a jersey of another color, as scrimmages with other teams begin this week.

Avanelle E. Allsep
Easley — Mrs. Avanelle Eleanor Nix Allsep, 78, widow of Grady L. Allsep, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Avanelle was born in Easley to the late Herbert and Ethel Edens Nix. There wasn’t anything Avanelle enjoyed more than spending time with her family. She was a member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church, and a homemaker.
Surviving are three sons, Steve (Glenda), Bill, and Mark (Jessica) Allsep, all of Easley; a daughter, Darla Nixon (Tom), of Easley; a sister, Florence Turner, of Easley; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service was held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 26 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed at Rock Spring Baptist Church cemetery.
