Double murder-suicide rocks Easley community
EASLEY — The Easley community is still in disbelief after the tragic death of a 15-year old Easley High student and his mother following what police are calling a murder-suicide on Saluda Dam Road last Thursday.
EHS mourns Smith’s death
EASLEY — Friday morning, Easley High School staff was notified of the death of 15-year-old Daniel Smith, a 9th-grade student.
Students and teachers were notified, and grief counselors were made available to students and staff.
Trio of sheriff hopefuls debate
EASLEY — The three men who will face off in the November election for the chance to become Pickens County’s first new sheriff in more than 40 years debated the issues last Tuesday at First Wesleyan Church in Easley.
Local woman trying to increase awareness for organ donations
EASLEY — “I’m nervous about doing this,” Easley resident Jan Ellenburg said, “but it might make people more aware of how precious being an organ donor is for the people who need them.”
Steve Ellenburg, Jan’s husband of nearly 40 years, is in need of a full or split liver transplant. Diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver in 2010, he has been on the active transplant list at Charleston’s MUSC for the last three months.
Volunteers welcome at Lake Jocassee cleanup event
UPSTATE — Volunteers will gather at Devils Fork State Park Saturday, Sept. 15, to remove trash and debris at Lake Jocassee in a collaborative effort that garnered tremendous community teamwork last year.

Lois Baus Beckett
Easley — Mrs. Lois Baus Beckett, 80, of 158 Pine Mountain Dr, wife of the late William R. Beckett died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born May 4, 1932 in Ewing Township, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Margaret Andrews Baus. Mrs. Beckett was a retired clerk for the township of Hamilton, N.J., was a member of the Moving Forward Group and a member of Easley Church of God. She loved her family and lived life to the fullest.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Beckett (Debbie) of Eatonville, Wash. and William Beckett, Jr. of Easley; daughter, Karen Lowdermilk, of Easley; sister, Jane Choma; step-brother, James Donnelly; grandchildren, John Lowdermilk, Jr, Deanna Mann, Melissa Pelletier, Amanda Corwin, Samantha Beckett and Kyle Neumann; great-grandchildren, Caleb Lowdermilk, Tate Lowdermilk, Mattison Tenry, Brenner Tenry, Adalyn Mann and Jean-O Pelletier.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her dear friend, Cleo Watson.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.
