Boil Water Advisory Lifted in Pickens

PICKENS, S.C. (Friday December 7, 2012, 11:00 A.M ) On Thursday, December 6, 2012, a boil water advisory was issued by the City of Pickens at 4:45PM. A break to a 8 inch water main caused the precautionary advisory to be issued. The break took crews approximately 7 hours to repair.

Following morning tests, the boil water advisory is now lifted. The area that was affected was the area at and around the highway 183 and 8 intersection in the City of Pickens. Customers to the East of this intersection were also advised to boil their water.

Upstate School Spirit holds grand opening

EASLEY — Upstate cheerleaders from all over the area celebrated the grand opening of Easley’s newest business, Upstate School Spirit, recently.

Upstate School Spirit offers spirit and sports wear for six local school areas: Easley, Daniel, Liberty, Pickens, Powdersville and Wren. Visitors can even find some middle and elementary school spirit wear, too. Cheerleaders from each of the six areas came to Upstate School Spirit’s grand opening to show their support for the new venture.

Boil Water Advisory; Main Water Line Break In Pickens

PICKENS — The City of Pickens Water Department advises the water customers East of the Highway 183 and Highway 8 intersection in the City of Pickens, to vigorously boil their water for at least one (1) full minute prior to drinking or cooking. Also, any residents near the affected area who have lost water and/or water pressure are also advised to vigorously boil their water for at least one (1) full minute prior to drinking or cooking. The City of Pickens has experienced a 8” eight inch water main break.

This could possibly result in bacterial contamination of the water in. Water customers should continue to vigorously boil their water for at least one (1) full minute prior to drinking or cooking until otherwise notified by the City of Pickens. Also, any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes. The City of Pickens is presently working to correct the problem.
