Flora Elizabeth Aiken Ross

Rocky Bottom — Mrs. Flora Elizabeth Aiken Ross, widow of the late William A. “Gus” Ross, died on July 23, 2013, after several years of declining health.

Mrs. Ross was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Rocky Bottom, and was raised by her mother, Myra Ellen Aiken, in the home of her grandparents, Waymon and Elizabeth Aiken. She lived in her beloved Rocky Bottom her entire life, working at the former 4-H Camp when she was younger and then raising her children and keeping her home in later years. She was a charter member of Rocky Bottom Baptist Church and served as church clerk for over 40 years. She was also part of the Rocky Bottom Trio with her husband, Gus, and daughter, Sandra, and loved to sing for the Lord, a trait she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Ross contributed the “Rocky Bottom News” to local papers for decades and was affectionately regarded as “Mrs. Mayor” by the citizens of Rocky Bottom because of her love for her community. Her wonderful neighbors and friends of Rocky Bottom loved her in return and cared for her as well, which is why Mrs. Ross was able to live there independently until the age of 88.
