County 5K Paint Run/Walk to help Meals On Wheels

PICKENS — Mark your calendars for the upcoming Pickens County 5K Paint Run/Walk to benefit Pickens County Meals on Wheels.

The event is set to begin on August 17 at Pickens High School. Each pre-registered participant will receive a custom designed commemorative t-shirt with medals for top male and female finishers in age groups 12 and under, 13-18 and 19 and above. The cost to participate is $20 pre-registration and $25 on day of the race.

Pickens County Meals on Wheels will get 100 percent of the proceeds from the event.

Pickens Recreation Cheer Camp

The 2013 Pickens Recreation Cheer Camp was held at the rec center on Sangamo Road on Saturday, July 27. Instructors from Foothills Gymnastics were on hand to teach rec cheerleaders and coaches new cheers and a dance. It was a fun-filled day for all.

Woman drowns tubing in Easley

EASLEY — A weekend tubing trip on the Saluda River turned deadly for a group of four over the weekend.

According to Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley, 37-year-old Heather Dobbins, of 1462 South Pratian Road in York, was tubing with friends on Saturday near Easley when she drowned.

The accident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. near the Saluda River Yacht Club on Old Easley Highway, Kelley said.

Dobbins was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
