Police: Man assaulted ex-girlfriend
LIBERTY — A Liberty man faces multiple charges, including assault and battery and burglary, after an incident involving his ex-girlfriend.
According to a report from the Liberty Police Department, officers received a call shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 9 in reference to an assault on Clover Street.
Upon arrival, an officer spoke to a woman who said her ex-boyfriend, who was on trespass notice from her home, had knocked on her door asking to speak with her. She told officers she advise the man that she wasn’t going to let him in and he needed to leave, walking back into her bedroom and getting into bed.

Ben Trotter named school board chair

EASLEY — Less than three months after announcing his resignation from the School District of Pickens County’s board of trustees before reconsidering the following day, Ben Trotter was elected as school board chairman during a special called meeting on Monday night.
Trustee Alex Saitta originally nominated fellow trustee Jim Shelton as chairperson, but the board voted 2-4 against the motion, with only Saitta and Shelton voting in favor.
Trotter then nominated chair Judy Edwards to serve a second term, but board members split with a 3-3 vote, with Trotter, Edwards and Dr. Herbert Cooper voting in favor.

Hunter found dead in stand
COUNTY — A Pickens hunter was found dead hanging from his tree stand Sunday.
According to Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley, James R. Chapman, 62, of Lakeview Heights Road died before 5 p.m. on Weaver Creek Trail off S.C. Highway 11.
Kelley classified Chapman’s death as an accident, and the case is still under investigation by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Kelley said the death did not appear to be self-inflicted, and

Meeting planned for those interested in new charter school
EASLEY — Those interested in a new charter school that will be offered by Intense Charter Schools next fall will have a meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Kimberly Hampton Library in Easley.
The new school was approved by the State Public Charter School District. Plans are for the new school to be housed at The Dream Center in Easley, formerly known as The Simpson Academy, at 200 West Avenue. The School District of Pickens County’s Board of Trustees approved the sale of the facility, with trustees Herb Cooper and Judy Edwards voting against the sale.

Six Mile plans ice cream social for bank
SIX MILE — To celebrate the upcoming opening of the town of Six Mile’s new Our Bank branch, bank officials are inviting residents to an ice cream social this Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
The social, scheduled to be held coinciding with the Six Mile Farmer’s Market’s final open day of the year, will be held at the former Six Mile Fire Department.
John Kreighbaum, president and chief executive officer of Carolina Premier Bank, announced last month that Our Bank would be located in the building that formerly housed First Citizens. Six Mile has been without a bank since First Citizens closed its branch in town in April.
Flame named All-State
Pickens seniors Michaela Leslie and Brianna O’Shields both earned CAWS All-State and North-South All-Star honors for their play this volleyball season. Leslie, a co-captain and outside hitter, led the team with 325 kills, a .255 hitting efficiency, and 52 aces while totaling 22 blocks and 490 digs. Middle blocker O’Shields was first on the team in blocks with 69, registered 255 kills, a .229 hitting efficiency, 62 digs, and 33 aces. Both athletes will compete for the 3A/4A North team this weekend at Erskine College.
Six Mile Feast-O-Plenty set for Saturday
SIX MILE — Six Mile Baptist Church, together with Prater’s Creek Baptist Church and B&B BBQ, will host the sixth-annual “Feast-O-Plenty” on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Last year, approximately 280 people enjoyed the event, and this year the group is hoping to share with even more. The meal will be served in the Roper Building, located at 150 North Main St. in Six Mile.
