Police: Clemson student assaulted officer
CLEMSON — Clemson University police arrested a student on a charge that he assaulted a police officer while resisting arrest just after midnight Friday night.
William Van Tuyl Hobbie IV, 19, of Montclair, N.J., was arrested in a room in Johnstone Hall on campus while police officers and firefighters were searching to be sure everyone had evacuated the building after a fire alarm was triggered when someone set off a fire extinguisher. When officials tried to enter the room, the occupant slammed the door several times against the police officer, then grabbed his uniform and shoved him, according to an incident report.
Hobbie was charged with assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest, a felony. He also was charged with interfering with an officer, possession of liquor by a person under 21 years old and possession of beer by a person under 21 years old, all misdemeanor charges.
He was released on an $11,440 surety bond.
Berkshire-Pickens Wrestling Club sets tentative schedule
LIBERTY — The Berkshire-Pickens Wrestling Club has released a tentative schedule for its spring season.
Practice for the club begins on March 12, from 4:30-6 p.m. at Liberty First Baptist Church.
The first competition of the season is scheduled for March 22 at Lower Richland High School, followed by a trip the following Saturday, March 29, to Chapman High School.
