Pickens — Dakota Jacks was the son of George Barry and Lyle Patricia Hendricks

Jacks. He was born in Easley on April 1, 1999. He attended Pickens High School, where he was an Honor Student and member of the rising sophomore class.

He was involved in numerous activities at school, including Junior ROTC, Beta Club, and Blue Line Bluegrass.

He was a member of Pickens View Wesleyan Church where he was actively involved in the 512 Student Ministry. He enjoyed many outdoor activities and spending time with friends and family. He also spent his summers ministering to special needs children.

Survivors include his parents, his brother Dylan Matthew Jacks of Easley and Dylan’s fiancé Jessie Fickenworth. Also surviving are his Grandparents Patricia Hendricks (widow of the late P. Sherman Hendricks) of Easley, Robert and Virginia Wilson of Canon, Ga., and George and Louise Jacks of Piedmont. In addition are a number of loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service was held Sunday, June 29 at 4 p.m. in Pickens View Wesleyan Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Easley Hospital Foundation for Pediatric TEAM Center or to the youth group of Pickens View Wesleyan Church.

Leigh Robinson

Liberty — Elizabeth Leatrice “Leigh” Lewis Robinson, 89, of 109 Venture Drive died Tuesday at Redeemer Health & Rehab in Pickens.

Born in Iva, she was the widow of Claude Edgar “Ed” Robinson, Jr. and a daughter of the late William Ralph and Lillian Howell Lewis. She was retired from Clemson University and most recently worked at Hardee’s in Liberty. She was a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Gilliam of Seneca; a son, Jimmy “Butch” Houston (Pat) of Clover; two sisters, Glenda Garrett of Seneca and Barbara Ivey of Utah; three granddaughters, Kim, Kelly and Fara; and five great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a brother, Bill Lewis; and a grandson, Scotty Gilliam.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Robinson were held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Abbott Cemetery.

Charles Delozier

Easley — Charles Alvin Delozier, 87, husband of the late Frances Bernice Smith Delozier, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Fairmont, to the late Elmer and Evelyn Pitts Delozier, Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He went on to work at Fiber Industries where he was a computer technician until his retirement. Charles loved sports, but his favorites were baseball and football. He never missed a game when his Atlanta Braves or University of South Carolina Gamecocks were playing.

He is survived by two sons, Dwayne Delozier (Teresa) and Thomas Delozier (Kathey); a daughter, Therese Goforth; three grandchildren, Michelle Alexandria Cooper, Christopher David Adams and Travis Lee Delozier; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Bud Delozier.

There are no funeral arrangements at this time.

The family members are at their respective residences.

Aileen Smith Bowen

Pickens — Aileen Smith Bowen, 83, of 814 Old Bethlehem School Road, Pickens died Thursday, June 26, 2014.

Aileen was born in Oconee County and was the daughter of the late Freeman Smith and Lucille Whitt. She was retired from Ryobi Company and a member of East Pickens Baptist Church. Aileen loved flowers and gardening and was an avid Clemson Tiger Fan. She will be fondly remembered for her sparkling blue eyes and fun loving personality.

Survivors include her son Tommy, daughter-in-law Jeannie and her beloved grandson, Cody and her precious dog “Snoopy”. Surviving, also are two brothers Ralph Smith of Townville and Wilton “Dickie” Smith of North Carolina.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Guy Bowen and three sisters and five brothers.

Graveside service was Saturday June 28 at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens. The Rev. Jamie Duncan officiated the service.

Lois Inez Britton

Pickens — Lois Patterson Britton, 92, wife of the late Ansel Britton died on Thursday, June 26, 2014.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Clove Evatt and Tillman Patterson. Lois was retired from Sangamo Electric and was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church for over 60 years.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend whose love of the Lord showed in all she did.

Surviving are her children, Lucille Maltby, Juanita Stewart (Buddy), Carolyn Frady of Michigan, Judy Chandler (Terry), Jackie Alexander (David) of Liberty, Larry Britton, Donnie Britton (Cindy), Ernie Britton (Glennon) and Scott Britton (Nancy) all of Pickens; 12 grandchildren, Jamie Stewart, Shannon Gibson, Melissa Roper, Amanda Snyder, Jenna Eller, Cory Chapman, Robbie Frady, David Alexander, Jr., Adam Alexander, Eric Britton and Tiffany Cable; 22 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and two sisters, Velma Lesley of Conway and Ruby Guy of Spartanburg.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Darlene Britton, an infant girl, a grandchild, BJ Stewart and two great grandchildren, Christian Hunter Chapman and Megan Evatt. Lois had several half brothers and sisters.

Graveside services were held on Sunday, June 29 at 2 p.m. Red Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Frances Bernice Wilson

Pickens — Frances Bernice Wilson, age 80, wife of the late Harry N. Wilson, Jr. died Thursday June 26, 2014 at Manna Health and Rehab Pickens.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Pickens County and the daughter of the late Bessie Reeves Stansell and Doil Stansell. Mrs. Wilson was of the Baptist faith and loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include three sons; Harry N. Wilson III and wife Dee Dee of Powderville, Donnie Ray Wilson and wife Lisa of Pickens, Mark Allen Wilson of Easley, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wilson was predeceased by her husband, parents and three brothers; Lloyd Stansell, B.C. Stansell and Ray Stansell.

Funeral Service was Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment was in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Registration open for Appalachian music lessons in local area

UPSTATE — Would you like to learn how to play a banjo, fiddle, guitar or mandolin? Enrollment is now underway for the summer session of Appalachian music lessons. The next session of the Evening Music Program will begin the week of July 14.

This program is open to all ages (third grade through adults) and is designed to teach students to play Appalachian music with acoustic instruments. Instruments include guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and banjo.

The six-week sessions will be held at the following locations:

1. Easley First Baptist Church in Easley (Tuesday nights) 2. Pickens Senior Center

Pickens Rotary gives $10,000 to help homeless in Pickens County

Pickens Rotarians Kathy Brazinski, Seth Crow, club president-elect Karen Culley, Jeannie Gilstrap, Ryan Smith, club president Dr. Paul Giddings, Marvin Short and, representing Family Promise, Steve Lambright of the United Way of Pickens County are pictured at the presentation of a $10,000 check to Family Promise.

PICKENS — Pickens Rotary Club recently presented a check for $10,000 to Family Promise of Pickens County.

The club expressed thanks to all the people and businesses that supported and attended the 2014 Pickens Rotary Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction to make the donation possible.

Family Promise was initiated by United Way of Pickens County to address the need for a homeless shelter in Pickens County in a cost-efficient way.

Family Promise brings the faith community together to temporarily host homeless families within their houses of worship and help families regain their housing, their independence and their dignity.

It offers an opportunity for volunteers of all faiths to reduce homelessness and transform lives.
