Carroll R. Hurley

Six Mile — Carroll Ray Hurley, 80, husband of Sherill Marr died Nov. 3, 2014.

Carroll was born in Bryson City, NC, son of the late Bass Lee and Ethel Seay Hurley. He was retired from Pickens County Recycling after a full working life as a Chemist with Dow Chemical, Technician with the Tega Cay Water Works near Rock Hill, Equipment Superintendant with RMI Oil Co, and as a long haul truck driver. A lifelong cowboy, he broke and trained horses for many years and traveled around the world 15 times. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in the Philippines and was a Shriner.

It seems that many products identical in materials and ingredients are priced more for women than for men. For example, it was found that disposable razors identical in every way except for color are more expensive for women than for men. Pink disposable razors are priced a good deal more than blue ones. Lions sponsor contest

Each year, Lions clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For more than 25 years, millions of children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.  The theme of the 2014-15 Peace Poster Contest was "Peace, Love and Understanding." Students ages 11, 12 and 13 were eligible to participate, and over 100 Liberty Middle School art students participated in this contest under the direction of Art Teacher Elaine Snell. This year’s Liberty Middle School Peace Poster Contest winners are 7th grader Jay Bost (3rd Place), 8th grader Brittany Price (2nd Place), and 8th grader Audrey King (1st Place). Man charged in killings

LIBERTY — A Liberty man faces two murder charges in connection with a shootout that left two family members dead at a Liberty apartment complex last month.

Benjamin James Pilgrim, 32, of 817 Rice’s Creek Road, who had been hospitalized since the Oct. 10 incident at Forestview Apartments, was arrested last Thursday upon his release from the Roger C. Peace Rehabilitiation Center in Greenville and charged with two counts of murder, as well as one count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Former Pickens officer charged with sex assault

PICKENS — A former Pickens police officer faces multiple charges after S.C. Law Enforcement Division agents allege he sexually assaulted a woman while on duty.

Robert Lee Sapp, 56, of 105 Beverly Court in Liberty, was charged with one count of first-degree assault and battery and one count of misconduct in office, according to a SLED news release.

Sapp was arrested last Wednesday to wrap up an investigation conducted by SLED agents at the request of the Pickens
