Free meals available for county children during summer break

COUNTY — Through its Summer Food Service Program, the School District of Pickens County will once again offer free, healthy meals to Pickens County children who are 18 and younger.

Free breakfast and lunch will be served at Pickens Elementary, West End Elementary and the Career and Technology Center

Dr. Thomas J. Eller (Tom Eller) lived in Pickens from 1946 through 1955. He graduated third in his class from Pickens High School in 1955 having served as President of the Student Body. He attended Furman University for two years, standing second in his class and having been designated the Outstanding ROTC Cadet in the 3rd Army Region in May 1957.

Riding the Doodle Trail

Last Sunday afternoon was a beautiful day, and at 3 o’clock I joined friends in Pickens to ride the Doodle Trail. It was pretty 6-25 Page 4A.inddexciting, because the trail had just opened on Saturday and who knew what lay ahead? There were a lot of other folks with the same idea, and as we rode along on our bikes we came across hikers and other bikers, joggers and strollers enjoying the day.

We even passed two wounded warriors in motorized wheelchairs with American flags, one a double amputee, who took advantage of a safe route on a perfect afternoon to enjoy

Local dancer performs at Spoleto Festival

Easley’s Lillian Goodman was invited to perform with the College of Charleston in the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston. Goodman received the invite from the head professor of the dance department at the College of Charleston, Gretchen McClaine. Goodman was part of the Emerging Artists Concert Series on Saturday and Sunday, where she performed her solo, “Papa Can You Hear Me.” The solo was choreographed by Goodman’s mother, Suzanne Goodman, and her sister, Madeline Goodman. Her sister is currently a junior at College of Charleston, double majoring in marine biology and dance. Goodman is currently a student at Foothills Dance Arts under the artistic direction of Suzanne Goodman.
