Pickens County Habitat for Humanity to host fundraiser
LIBERTY — Pickens County Habitat for Humanity (PCHFH) will host Have a Heart for Habitat, a donor fundraising event, from 6-9 p.m. this Friday, April 21, at Abundant Blessings Farm in Liberty to celebrate 35 years of service to the Pickens community.

Where shall the live?
Statistically, more than 90 percent of seniors wish to live and age in their own home. Most seniors surveyed are relatively healthy. They can care for themselves and still enjoy activities with friends and neighbors. Then tragedy strikes either slowly (with dementia) or suddenly (with other illnesses). Adult children are called. The picture changes.
The question becomes, ‘Where is it best for the infirmed family member to live — at their home, at a relative’s home, or in a facility?”

One SC woman making a difference — globally

Pickens team wins volleyball tourney
PICKENS — One week after finishing 10th in the standings at the 108-team 13s tournament at the Mizuno Big South Volleyball Tournament in Atlanta, the Carolina One 13 Power Pickens team went undefeated in the 34-team Palmetto Regional Tournament in Charlotte, capturing
the gold championship and the region title to finish the season.
Two years ago, the squad known as Fire finished fourth as an 11U team playing up in the 12s division, while last year finishing runner-up in the 12s.
“This year was their first to finish on top, and it was extremely thrilling,” head coach Peggy Anthony said.
At the Charlotte Convention Center on Friday, April 7, starting at six points each, Fire defeated Fort Mill 13 Green (25-17, 25-16) before beating Charleston Juniors 13 Red (25-15, 25-12). Faye Harris Marple
CLEVELAND — Faye Carolyn Harris Marple, 78, of Cleveland, wife of the late Robert Neil Marple, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at her home.
Born in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Vivian James Harris and was a retired educator for the Special School District of St. Louis, Mo.
Surviving are her three sons, Craig Scott Marple of Ravensdale, Wash., Mark Edward Marple

Pickens comes alive for annual Azalea Festival!
The city of Pickens celebrated spring with its 33rd annual Azalea Festival on Friday and Saturday. The event featured a classic car cruise-in and live music from The Tams on Friday night and a full day of festivities on Saturday, including food, a record number of arts and crafts vendors, rides, games, live music and much more.. Fundraiser planned to help Meals on Wheels and other local organizations
LIBERTY — Pickens County Meals on Wheels needs your help. Pickens County and PCMOW have found a way to create a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels and other area groups, classes and church or nonprofit organizations.
May 5-7, PCMOW will be presenting the play “Fried Apple Pies” at the new Liberty Civic Auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door, and 100 percent of the ticket sales will go to Pickens County Meals on Wheels.
However, any organization can request to sell tickets prior to opening night for $5. The goup will receive $2 for every ticket sold. The remaining $3 will go to Meals on Wheels. There are 600 tickets available for each event, and all tickets are general admission. Tickets will be sold for specific days.
To request tickets, call 898-5831 with the number you need for each night. You do not have to purchase anything in advance. All you need to do is request the number of tickets
