3 killed on county roads

COUNTY — Three people, including a rising Pickens High School senior, were killed in separate accidents on Pickens County roads over the weekend.

Sheriff’s office arrests GCSO deputy
EASLEY — An off-duty Greenville County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested at his home in Easley on Tuesday morning after police said he choked his ex-wife during a fight in front of their child and other family members over the weekend.

2 arrested after tips on meth sales in Clemson
CLEMSON — Clemson police arrested two people recently after an investigation into claims someone was selling methamphetamine from a business within the city.
According to a news release issued by Clemson Police chief Jimmy Dixon, officers followed up on tips and information and partnered with S.C. Probation, Pardon and Parole Services for the investigation.

Final school board budget hikes taxes
PICKENS — Despite chairman Phillip Bowers’ motion to the contrary, the Pickens County School Board recently passed third and final reading of the fiscal year 2018 general fund budget that includes a 2-mill tax increase.
Bowers and trustee Henry Wilson voted against increasing operating millage by 2 mills, while trustees Brian Swords, Betty Bagley, Betty Garrison and Shannon Haskett voted in favor.
Bowers said he had several reasons for opposing the tax increase.

Can you believe this is true?
There was a news tidbit that came my way that frankly didn’t seem believable. Apparently, there are adults running around loose on the street that believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows. Really. Who could make that up?
Also, many fifth-graders don’t know pickles are made from cucumbers, French fries are made from potatoes and, last, but certainly not least, hamburger meat is made from beef.
That’s right. And not just children fall into the category of food source ignorance.
In addition, there are many people who don’t know cheese is made from milk.
