Weather balloons to get view of eclipse 110K feet above Clemson

CLEMSON — The best view of next week’s solar eclipse over Clemson just might be from the stratosphere, 110,000 feet above campus, where two weather balloons from the University of Maine will float overhead and livestream the eclipse back to Earth.

The University of Maine contingent, including engineering professor Rick Eason and a dozen students, is part of the NASA-sponsored project “Great American Eclipse.” Students from 55 teams nationwide will share the aerial footage on NASA’s website.

Clemson University is in the center of the roughly 70-mile path of totality, meaning the eclipse will happen directly above campus, with the eclipse creating near-total darkness. UMaine is collaborating with Montana State University on the project.

Nothing to fear but fear itself

I’m thinking about getting a special flag to attach to my car. Maybe a white background with a red heart in the center and two white doves inside the heart. And on the outside edge, running around the heart, it should say “Love one another.”

I’ve puzzled and pondered the riot in Charlottesville, Va., and still don’t understand why people would do what was done.

There are a lot of viewpoints in the world, and of course a lot of them are not appealing to me. That doesn’t mean I plan to march up and down the peaceful streets of Pickens rallying my followers to hate my neighbors

Another is to volunteer for a position in a school system, health organization, church or other type of organization where you use your skills to benefit the community.

Finding our purpose is easy compared to a person who has developed any

My grandmother, who migrated from Poland, spoke only seven words of English. My grandmother never spoke English, but she did more for this country then you can imagine.

One of her sons was wounded at the battle of Pearl Harbor, and another son
