CLEMSON — Clemson’s slow start to the second half on Saturday allowed Florida State to get within three points in the fourth quarter.

But the No. 4 Tigers came up with enough big plays late to defeat the Seminoles 31-14 and secure a third straight ACC Atlantic Division title.

Clemson (9-1, 7-1 ACC) led 17-7 after three quarters, but Florida State (3-6, 3-5) scored on a 90-yard drive to end the third and a 60-yard touchdown early in the fourth to get within three points at 17-14.

PICKENS — Needless to say, it is not often that a 2-8 season brings with it plenty of promise and excitement heading into the offseason.

However, for the Pickens Blue Flame, the promising conclusion to what served as a milestone season bodes well for what could be a turnaround 2018 slate.

“I was very proud of our kids,” Pickens head coach Chad Smith said when rehashing the 2017 season. “I think they came with a very good attitude every day, and I think we got

EASLEY — If a coach could know how many injuries the team would have during a season, he could surmise what type of season may play out.

For Easley coach John Windham, his Green Wave was hit hard by the injury bug for the 2017 season, especially at quarterback and along the offensive line.

Still, despite the injuries, the Green Wave finished third in Region I-5A again with a 2-2 record and finished with a 5-6 overall record for a

Central — The 2017 season is in the books for the Daniel Lions, and for the Lions it will looked back upon as a season of missed opportunity.

Daniel finished the season 2-9, with wins in the regular-season opener against Berkeley and the regular-season finale against Pickens before succumbing to the Greer Yellow Jackets in a regular-season rematch in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.

The Lions had high expectations entering the season after finishing with a a 6-4 record in 2016.

Much of the core of the team remained intact, but the loss of key seniors like Miles Turmon, Brandon Peppers and Malik Watt was a major hurdle to overcome in the second year under head coach Jeff Fruster. The Lions also lost two-year starting quarterback Ben Batson
