‘Eclipse Over Clemson’ book debuts this week
CLEMSON — “Eclipse Over Clemson: The day Tigertown will never forget,” a commemorative book about the Aug. 21 total solar eclipse, debuted Monday, just in time for the holidays.
It is expected that customers who preordered the book, which was produced by Clemson University’s College of Science, will receive their copies by mid-December. Pickens City Council honors Holley, swears in newly elected members
The city of Pickens honored one of its own during Monday night’s council meeting at city hall. Councilman Carlton Holley’s term ended with Holley stepping down to further his education in the ministry. He was presented with an award for his years of service by Mayor David Owens (above left) as council looked on. Holley was also honored on Friday night (above right) as the recipient of the 2017 “I Fan the Flame” Award during the city’s annual Christmas tree lighting at Legacy Square. The meeting also saw council members Donnie McKinney and Donna Owen (below right) sworn into office. Councilman Patrick Lark (below left) could not be at Monday’s meeting. He was sworn in by Owens on Friday at Pickens City Hall for another term on council.
Clemson author publishes book on stroke aftermath

CLEMSON — Like most married couples, Laura Garren and Chuck Linnell like to rib each other and share the inside jokes that come with any long relationship.
That relationship was radically redefined in a matter of seconds in 2008, when Chuck suffered a catastrophic stroke at the age of 56.
Garren recently published “Stroke Happens: A Caretaker’s Memoir,” a book chronicling just how their lives changed in the aftermath, as Linnell began the recovery process and Garren navigated their new reality.

Front-row seats to magic
