Woman charged in infant son’s death
Warrant claims Easley woman had drugs in system as she co-slept with baby
EASLEY — An Easley woman was still behind bars without bond 
Tuesday after she was arrested Jan. 6 in connection with the November death of her 7-week-old son.
Kendall Reid Bishop, 21, is charged with unlawful conduct toward a child and providing false information to a police officer, according toonline Pickens County Detention Center records.

PCSO: Truck stolen from Six Mile store
SIX MILE — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of a pickup truck from a Six Mile service station on Thursday 
morning.
Chief deputy Creed Hashe said a gold 1997 Chevrolet 1500 truck was stolen from Durham’s Service Station on South Main Street. Hashe said the vehicle displayed a South Carolina license tag of FRG324 at the time of the theft.

‘Meth is our biggest issue’
Liberty police chief talks drug problems in area

LIBERTY — While heroin and opioids are present in the area, those drugs are not the ones that Liberty police officers deal with most 
often.
“The closer you get to Greenville, the worse it is,” Gilstrap said of heroin and opioids. “Meth is our biggest issue currently.”

Mayor: Liberty leaders united

LIBERTY — Mayor Brian Petersen said there are “lots of great things going on” in Liberty.
“Tremendous things,” he said.
On Jan. 11, Petersen gave his first State of the City update since being elected mayor in November. The State of the City event was a lunch-and-learn session sponsored by the Liberty Area Chamber of Commerce.
Although the city won’t have a full council until the special election to fill the Ward 4 seat, Petersen says the current council is united.
“We have unity and passion — about change, about vision, about where we need to go — on our current council that I have not seen in the 14 years of my involvement on city council,” Petersen said.

New Bojangles’ now open
The new Bojangles’ in Liberty is officially open to the public after a ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration on Tuesday. The restaurant is located at 7239 Moorefield Memorial Highway, just off U.S. Highway 123. “We are absolutely thrilled to open our newest Bojangles’ in Liberty,” said Jeff Rigsby, BOJ of WNC franchisee. The restaurant measures approximately 3,800 square feet, seats more than 70 people and will employ more than 40 full and part-time team members. Hours of operation for are from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. Hampton Memorial Park in the works

PICKENS — Jim Garrison says that many of the patrons who use the Capt. Kimberly Hampton Library in Easley may not know anything 
about the woman it is named for.
“Most of them know her name, and they probably see her portrait in there but don’t realize the significance of that,” Garrison said.
He’s part of an effort to change that, by creating a memorial park for Hampton on the grounds of the library in Easley.

Auxiliary plans fundraiser events
PICKENS – The Cannon Memorial Auxiliary has two huge fundraisers set for January and February.
Later this month, the CMA will host a “White Elephant” sale. Donations for the sale will be taken from 1-4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Volunteers will accept new and gently used items for the sale. No clothing will be accepted.

Liberty wins county wrestling championship
The Liberty High School wrestling team won the Pickens County wrestling championship on Saturday at Easley High School. The team is now 20-5 on the season. The team has five regular-season events remaining before competing in the Class 2A state playoffs, which run from Feb 3-10. Team members include Caleb Courville, Shyann Oglesby, Payton Poole, Nathan Hellams, Jacob Rogers, McKinnon Stewart, Cole Murphy, Jacob Lee, Hunter Powell, Ajah Young, Dustin Krout, Trent Pitman, Brandon Vega, Noah Kelly, Brad Moore, Lucas Bates and Jack Brissey. The Devils’ head coach is Nathan Day. Assistant coaches are Dakota Stewart, Bo Chandler, and Alan Brooks. The team managers are Christy Taylor, Addie Cromer, Cameron Hope, Alyssa Chandler and Zoe Addington.
Easley High cheerleaders planning Kiddie Camp
EASLEY — Easley High School’s cheerleading squads will host a Winter Kiddie Camp for children in grades K5 through six Feb. 3 at the school.
Participants will learn cheers, chants, dances, motions and a mini routine to perform at the parent showcase. Additionally they will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and a take-home DVD of cheer material. The cost for the camp will be $25 per participant.
