Courier Trespass Notices 2-28-18
In the state of South Carolina, trespass after notice is a misdemeanor criminal offense prohibited by section 16-11-620 for the South Carolina Code.

Anthony named to state hall of fame
Legendary Pickens High School volleyball coach Peggy Anthony 
was honored on Sunday with an induction into the S.C. Coaches Association of Women’s Sports Hall of Fame. The 14th person inducted into the hall of fame, Anthony was pinned by 2017 inductee Sherry Haithcock, who coached alongside Anthony at PHS and also coached at Daniel High before serving as a longtime coach and athletic director at Liberty High. In addition to stints coaching basketball, track and cheerleading, Anthony was the head coach of the Lady Blue Flame volleyball coach for 26 years, leading Pickens to nine state championships and earning 18 region coach of the year honors, as well as three state coach of the year awards. Germany trip draws questions

Liberty residents concerned by proposed development

LIBERTY — Residents of a Liberty neighborhood are concerned about a proposed new development — and the speed with 
which the proposal appears to be moving through official channels.
“Our goal is to get (Liberty City Council) to slow down,” resident Daniel Graybeal said. “They need to back off a little bit, get all the information.”

Easley man dies days after wreck
EASLEY — An 88-year-old Easley man died last week at Greenville Memorial Hospital nearly a week after being injured in a single-car wreck.

Official warns residents of jury duty scam

COUNTY — Pickens County clerk of court Pat Welborn is warning residents about phone scammers.
“There is somebody that’s calling people up on the phone and stating that they’ve missed a court date for jury duty,” Welborn said Monday. “They’re telling people that they need to send in money to stop the bench warrant process.”

CENTRAL — In front of a packed gym at Daniel High School on Feb. 7, seven student-athletes announced their final decisions on where they’ll attend college.
Erica Chapman will play softball at Limestone, Carter Fricks will play baseball at Toccoa Falls College, John Martin will play soccer at Clemson, Palmer Story will play football at The Citadel, Drew Swinney and Jake Venables will play football at Clemson and Katie Whitfield will play golf at Bowling Green.

LHS wrestlers advance to 2A state tournament
LIBERTY — The Liberty High School wrestling team had four upper state champions and seven people advancing to the state tournament in Anderson.
Upper state champions during last weekend’s action were Jacob Rogers, Cole Murphy, Lucas Bates and Hunter Powell.
Runner-ups in their weight classes were Jack Brissey and Noah Kelly. McKinnon Stewart also advanced to the tournament, placing fourth in his weight class.
The tournament will run Friday evening and all day Saturday at the Anderson Civic Center. Additionally, the Red Devils finished the season as Class 2A upper state champions and state runners-up, losing a close match to Bamberg on Feb. 10.
