Police: Man with gun set house on fire

CENTRAL — Police said a Central man brandished a gun and set his house on fire when officers tried to serve him with a warrant on Sunday afternoon.

Scouts Give back
Cub Scouts from Pack 51 decided recently to give back to the police officers who help protect their community. They put together care packages and presented them to the Pickens City Police Department on Saturday, Jan. 27. Man killed in wreck as he pulls out of driveway

LIBERTY — A 76-year-old Liberty man died Friday morning after authorities say he pulled out of his driveway and was hit by an oncoming truck.

Animal proposal draws crowd to council meeting

Business owners opposed to changes to bump officer pay
PICKENS — Pickens officials’ effort to alleviate the problem of not being able to attract or retain qualified police officers was
slowed Monday night as members of the business community responded to a public hearing to stop a proposal that would raise the city’s business license fees by 10 percent to help fund pay range increases for police.
During Pickens City Council’s regular monthly meeting, council voted to table the increase, which would also eliminate the declining rate for gross sales over $1 million for businesses in the city.
