Auction to benefit Dacusville Community Center

DACUSVILLE — The Dacusville Community Center will present “The third annual Best-Ever Chinese Auction” on Saturday, March 17.

The Dacusville Community Center is located at 2671 Earls Bridge Road in Easley. Doors will open at 11 am for viewing.

Ticket drawing will begin at 1 pm. There will be a hot dog sale and a bake sale. All proceeds will go to support the Dacusville Community Center.

 

Grace United plans Holy Week schedule

PICKENS — Grace United Methodist Church of Pickens is inviting local residents to join in a journey to the resurrection during Holy Week, March 25-April 1.

Liberty Rec 17U team to play for state title Friday

LIBERTY – The Liberty Recreation all-star 17 and under basketball team won the Western district championship on Saturday night.

The team, coached by Jacob Sexton, will play in the state tournament on Friday in Westminster against the winners of the other districts around the state.

Days of crabs and ice cream

We were visiting my Aunt Liv (Olivia) in Washington, N.C., on the Pamlico River. It was summer, and we’d all been swimming.

Sammy and Shep had been out on the river in the boat to check the crab pots and had hauled in a bumper crop. They were all good sized Atlantic blue crabs and they were destined for the picnic table after some folks got busy setting everything up.

I recently looked at the city of Pickens’ financial audits of the past few years. One of the main challenges the city government has is its costs are rising, but natural revenue growth is non-existent or very low. Jane Ellen Atkinson Craig

PICKENS — Jane Ellen Atkinson Craig of Pickens died peacefully surrounded by her family on Feb. 27, 2018.

Jane was born on Jan. 8, 1933, in Orangeburg. She was predeceased by her parents, Aubrey Law and Edna Hough Atkinson. Jane graduated in 1951 from Greenwood High School and Winthrop College in 1955. Jane married her husband of more than 60 years, Olin Lemuel Craig, on May 18, 1957. Prior to moving to Pickens, Jane served as executive assistant to the president of Palmetto Baking Company and also as a secretary for

he story of a pig in danger and the smart, resourceful spider trying to save him may be geared toward children, but Liberty High School theater teacher Jean Scales Toole says it has a message for everyone.

“I love this story,” Toole said. “I love what it has to say. It is not just a children’s book. If you really listen, there are some true life lessons in this play.”
