Diana Lynn T. Moody
LIBERTY — Mrs. Diana Lynn Tovrea Moody, 64, wife of Robert 
Louis Moody, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018.
Born in Aurora, Ill., a daughter of the late James Charles and Mattie Frances Daughtry Tovrea, Mrs. Moody received her associate degree from Tri-County Technical College and was the manager of faculty services at Southern Wesleyan University. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 44 years, are a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Moody Banks of Liberty; two sons, James Robert Moody of Liberty and Stephen Philip Moody (Samantha) of Greenville; three sisters, Kathleen Jean Tovrea and Loretta Sylvia Tovrea, both of Greenville, and Sally Jean Tovrea George of Liberty; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Burial

County breaks ground on hangars named for late Pickens student

LIBERTY — Pickens County officials broke ground on new hangars at the Pickens County Airport last week.
Before the March 13 groundbreaking, county council members 
held a special called meeting at the airport on a resolution to dedicate the hangars in memory of Dakota Jacks, a Pickens High School student who was killed in a plane crash in Arizona on June 24, 2014.
“Dakota Jacks was a beloved Pickens County resident and honor student at a Pickens High School, JROTC cadet, Beta Club member, a vital member of the school’s bluegrass music group, as well as a full and joyful participant in the life and activity of our community, providing outstanding service thereto,” the resolution read by Pickens

Coming soon, new potatoes

It’s March, and new potatoes are soon going to be plentiful. It’s up to us to take advantage of them.
New potatoes are special. They have thin, delicate skins. When they’re first dug from the earth, the skins can come off when they’re washed.
For most of these recipes, we recommend using small new potatoes. Their unique flavor is slightly different from that of larger, older potatoes, and you only have the opportunity to experience that in spring.
If you have a good source for local produce, buy from there. If not, look around in your grocery store. Ideally, you can grow your own, but unless they’re already growing in your garden, it’s a little late to be thinking of that.
So hurry and get your potatoes. There’s nothing like them.
Miss Upstate
Brooklyn Garrett is the new 2018 Miss Upstate and will be competing in June at the Miss South Carolina 
scholarship competition in Columbia. Brooklyn is currently a 22-year-old senior at Clemson University and will graduate in May with a bachelor’s degree in women’s leadership and philosophy, with a law emphasis. Brooklyn was also the 2017 Miss Clemson University. The Miss S.C. organization raised more than $168,000 last year for the four Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in the state. Clemson Extension website honored for excellence by SC State Library
COLUMBIA — The Clemson University Cooperative Extension’s website was named to the 2017 South Carolina State Library’s Notable State Documents list.
