If you can’t live without it
Even though we have had a lot of inclement weather, there is an occasional Wednesday that makes a trip to the flea market seem feasible.
And so we went. It was windy and a bit on the chilly side, but still, the sun was shining, and if we bundled up it was bearable unless you turned your face into the wind.
Yes, it was a bit muddy but what’s a little mud when compared to the chance to be outside with the sun shining? And most of the time while walking

God is more than enough
We’ve all heard the song “He’s got the whole world in His hands,” but did you know this is actually from scripture? We read in Isaiah chapter 40 and verse 12, “Who has calculated the waters in the hollow of His hand, and who has measured the heavens and determined the dust of the earth, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?”
Today, if you feel that your crisis is too much for God to take

Losing friends and making new ones
If we live long enough, we’ll eventually get to the age where we start losing people around us. Friends, neighbors and relatives succumb to serious illness, and our lives will never be the same. We end up going to more and more funerals. Our social networks get smaller and smaller, and that leaves us … where?
Alone … unless we see the writing on the wall and plan ahead

Looking out for No. 1
All across the country there are veterans who might be ill and not know it. The reason: They don’t have the results of their medical tests.
If you have medical tests done at a veterans’ facility, before you leave, ask when the results will be ready. You’ll likely be told, “Someone will call you.” Get a name and write it down. Later if you start getting anxious because you haven’t gotten a call, give it one more

Yards of Yarn
Local residents had a chance to reminisce about the area’s textile heritage with Yards of Yarn at the Hagood Community Center in Pickens. The community center was the perfect site for the show about the history of textile mills in the Upstate, as it was once a mill school in the heart of the Pickens textile mill village. Those in attendance had a chance to hear stories and look at old photos and other artifacts and mementos from the textile mill communities of the early 1900s. Upstate musicians Hunter Holmes and Steve McGaha also performed songs of the era and gave historical perspectives of the songs.

Cooking with fresh herbs makes such a difference in flavor.
In warm weather, I have access to herbs grown in the yard. It was a great discovery to learn I could buy a bay plant and keep it year-round by bringing it in during cold weather.
If you place a couple of bay leaves under a roasting hen or chicken breasts while they bake, the flavor is absorbed by the meat.
None of these recipes are difficult, and all will throw some fresh flavors into
