Walk planned to benefit Clemson
CLEMSON — A walk is scheduled to raise money for a scholarship to help Clemson University student veterans.
The fourth annual Clemson Walk for Veterans is set for 10-11 a.m. on April 14, before the Clemson football team’s annual Orange and White spring game.
The walk is planned to honor and celebrate those who have served the U.S. in the armed forces, and all proceeds will go to the Clemson Veterans Scholarship Endowment.

Courier Obituaries 4-4-18
Jack Townsend
EASLEY — Mr. Jack Townsend Jr., 90, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, with family at his bedside, after a long illness.
Jack was a devout Christian who taught Sunday school for many years, as well as served as a 
deacon. He was a charter member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church. A member of Easley Rotary Club, Jack was a two-time Paul Harris award recipient. His passions were Jesus and telling others about Him, his family, flying and selling cars.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Jackie Day; his parents, Luna Moon and Jack Townsend Sr., two sisters and a brother.
Left to grieve his passing are his wife of 70 years, Florence; son, Stan Townsend (Dianne);
Annual Clemson Experimental Forest celebration Saturday
CLEMSON — The Clemson Experimental Forest will hold its annual Forest Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, April 7, in the Lake Issaqueena area.

There will be activities for adults and children, including guided hikes, nature walks, scavenger hunts, air rifle demonstrations, waterfall views, canoeing and kayaking, forestry activities and outdoor games.
This is the third year for the event. South Carolina Botanical Garden education and resource coordinator James Wilkins and Experimental Forest manager Russell Hardee coordinated the event and said it is for anyone who wants to spend a day connecting with nature.
“This is a wonderful event for people to spend a day in our Experimental Forest,” Wilkins said.

2018 Clemson Horticulture Student Plant Sale set for Friday
CLEMSON — Gardeners, homeowners and others preparing to plant flowers this spring have an opportunity to buy local plants grown in high-tech greenhouses and cultivated by Clemson 
University horticulture students and professors.
The annual Clemson Horticulture Student Plant Sale is set for this Friday, April 6. Clemson associate professor of horticulture Jim Faust said this year’s sale features a vast array of annuals, plants for hanging baskets, vegetable and herb transplants and more.

Fort Prince George DAR Chapter wins two state awards
EASLEY — Anne Kilpatrick and Mildred Brewer, members of the Fort Prince George Chapter National Society of the American Revolution, received special recognition at the 125th 
anniversary DAR State Conference, recently held in Columbia.
Kilpatrick, Regent of the Fort Prince George Chapter NSDAR, was honored with the DAR South Carolina Chapter Regent of the Year award.
According to the instruction sheet, “A good Chapter Regent inspires and leads chapter members to accomplish good work. The work reported is not just accomplishments of the Regent. It is also the accomplishment of the chapter members.”

• EHS Class of 1978 planning reunion
The Easley High School Class of 1978 will have its 40-year class reunion April 21 at Looper’s Barn, located at 101 Laurenwood Drive in Pickens.
After registration from 5-7 p.m., the festivities will kick off with a BBQ dinner at 7 p.m. There will a live DJ to entertain, as well as a special memorial to the classmates who have passed away.
The event is BYOB, and fishing will also be available at the pond on-site. Overnight camping is available, but checkout time is 9 a.m.
Cost is $40 per person if paid by mail and $45 per person paid via debit or credit card. The payment deadline is April 7.
To pay by mail, make checks out to EHS Class of ‘78 and send to P.O. Box 3033, Easley, SC 29641.
• CMHA scholarship now being offered
For the 22nd year, the Cannon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior and/or a member of the community entering or furthering their career in a medical field.
Recipients will have their scholarship money paid directly to the school of their choice.
