3 arrested in Doodle vandalism
Police say patrols to increase along trail

PICKENS — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office has charged three people after a section of rail fencing along the Doodle Trail was recently damaged.
Austin Daniel Burnett of Easley and Marc Anthony Brayboy of Greenville, both 17, are charged with malicious damage to real property, according to a Pickens County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The arrests were made on April 4. The two teens were released later the same day on personal recognizance bonds of $1,000 each.
A 13-year-old boy is also charged with the same offense, the release

Council backs California county in immigration suit

PICKENS — Pickens County Council is throwing its support behind Orange County, Calif., in an immigration dispute against the California legislature.
Council members voted on a resolution “in support of Orange County, California for supporting our federal system of government, United States immigration policy and the rule of law” during their special called meeting Monday night.

Networks coming together to help county homeless

PICKENS —
hurches and other community partners are being enlisted to help create homeless shelters in Pickens County.
County emergency management director Denise Kwiatek updated county council members on that effort last week.
In January, Tracy and Sunshine Gantt appeared before council to speak about the need for a homeless shelter in the county.
Kwiatek has met with the Gantts, the Salvation Army and officials with churches and other organizations about creating an advisory task force “so we can understand what the need is in Pickens County.”

Easley spring fling moved to this weekend
EASLEY — Predicted wet weather forced the postponement of Easley’s Spring Fling last weekend.
City officials decided the event, originally scheduled for April 7, will instead be held this Saturday, coinciding with the Family Unity Festival in Old Market Square.
Spring Fling will still be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in Old Market Square, Easley Farmers Market manager Lisa Chapman said.

Easley to reinvest in downtown TIF district
EASLEY — The city of Easley is investing $1.8 million in bond revenue into the downtown Tax Increment Finance district, according to a news release.
The funds generated through the district can only be used for improvements within the defined project area.

Rogers golf tourney scheduled for April 21
PICKENS — The 14th annual Charles F. Rogers Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament is scheduled for April 21.
The tournament, which annually benefits a male and female senior basketball player from Pickens High School planning to attend a university, college or technical school, is set to kick off with a 2 p.m. shotgun start at Southern Oaks Golf Course.

Innovative show to raise money for local band programs Friday
