Take advantage of versatile Vidalias

By Olivia Fowler

For the Courier

ofowler@thepccourier.com

There’s only one place in the whole world that grows authentic Vidalia onions, and that’s Vidalia, Ga.

They have the perfect soil to produce this sweet, flavorful onion. The only drawback is the onions only come into the market once a year. And now is the time.

So, don’t let the grass grow under your feet. Buy some and use them as much as possible while they’re available. Even people who say they don’t like onions have been known to change their minds when they taste Vidalias.

I hope you’ll like them, too.

Easley Spring Fling moves to April 14 in light of possible rain on Saturday

EASLEY — Predicted wet weather has forced the postponement of Easley’s Spring Fling this weekend.
With a 100 percent chance of rain in the forecast for Saturday, city officials decided Thursday that the event will instead be held on April 14, coinciding with the Family Unity Festival in Old Market Square.
Spring Fling will still be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in Old Market Square, Easley Farmers Market manager Lisa Chapman said.

Sign of Progress

A new sign has been erected to mark the Pickens Amphitheater off Main Street downtown, as a result of hard work by a number of local groups. The sign is a product of the Pickens Revitalization Association Design Committee in action with help from Pickens city staff, Glassy Mountain Metal Art, Twelve Mile Defense, Cornell Dubilier, Campbell Crane Service and GLS Architects and Palmetto Pride grant funding. The city’s spring and summer concert series will kick off with a performance by Shoal Creek on April 14.
