Scared of parents and media uproar
Dear Editor,
I’m sure most read about and saw the video of the Anderson School District 1 teacher, Lisa Houston, and the student falling asleep in class.
Clearly the teacher exercised bad judgement. As well intentioned as she was, putting your feet on anyone and tugging at their hair, even in a playful way, is not a good idea. However, I would not have fired her. Plus, she had an excellent record for 28 years.
You say to the teacher, we can see you were well intentioned, and you like to engage the students in a fun and playful way, and we love that about you, but this was a step too far. And I’m sure she sees that. The administration then writes her up a warning, it goes in her file, and she

Twice a year in national cemeteries across the country, veterans are honored with ceremonies and visits. Memorial Day has long been the

The graceful exercise

Leonard B. “Ben” Greer
EASLEY — Mr. Leonard Bennett “Ben” Greer Jr., 77, husband of Patricia Sorrells Greer, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard B. Greer and Ada McCollum Greer; four brothers, Furman McCollum, Hughey Greer, John Greer and Jim Greer; and one sister, Margaret Thigpen.

Losing a loved one is never easy. Whether the loss is recent or not, many people find the void created by a loved one’s passing never leaves them. Celebrating holidays or milestones can magnify feelings of loss, and such feelings may surface on Mother’s Day among people whose mothers are deceased.
People approach Mother’s Day in unique ways when their mother has been laid to rest. Such an experience is extremely personal, and there’s really no right or wrong way to mark the occasion. It can be challenging scrolling through other’s social media posts about happy brunches and thoughtful gifts. PICKENS — The Pickens Recreation Department and Pickens Youth Athletic Corporation are currently registering youth for the fall 2018 cheerleading and football season.

Our Diamond Day celebration was a great success! The weather started a little shaky for us in the morning, but the entire day’s festivities played out as planned. We want to thank all of our friends, relatives and visiting teams from Pendleton, Easley and Powdersville who came to enjoy the day with us and supported this event.
