Short-timer? Plan your post-service benefits
If you’re about to leave the service, there are a number of transition services you need to know about. Your biggest issue will be timing.
Wherever you’re stationed, there is a benefits adviser available, as well as a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) manager. Their job is to help you through the process and make sure no stone is left unturned in getting you the benefits you need once you’re out.

Gertrude Skelton Henderson Nix
EASLEY — Surrounded by most of her family, Gertrude Henderson 
Nix passed peacefully to Heaven May 11, 2018, at the Magnolias of Easley, where she had lived most of the last seven years.
She was born Martha Gertrude Skelton on March 3, 1920, and lived the majority of her 98 years in Pickens County.
She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence S. Skelton and Carrie Kelley Skelton, and her brother, Edward. She was also predeceased by her husband of 43 years and father of her children, Samuel I. Henderson; her second husband, Paul W. Nix; her son, Robert, and his wife/ her

There is something about venomous snakes that makes almost everyone shudder. I have never been able to pinpoint what that variable is. Is it because of the Genesis story in the Bible, or the fact that pain and death are possibly so close? I only know that I, personally, still have that feeling, especially when a rattlesnake is involved.

Pickens chamber welcomes new photography business
PICKENS — The Greater Pickens Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed Russell Brinson Photography to the chamber business 
community.
Brinson specializes in wedding photography, senior photography and family photography, but the studio does everything from sports, fashion and commercial, to even celebrity photography. Russell Brinson Photography is a family business.

• McDonald’s to host CMA Spirit Night
The Cannon Memorial Auxiliary Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Spirit Night at McDonald’s in Pickens from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22. A portion of sales from the event will be given to the auxiliary. The Cannon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary financially supports AnMed Health Cannon through a variety of fundraising events throughout the year. Straight from the oven

Although they are a prime staple of the Southern breakfast table, 
biscuits can make for a delectable delight morning, noon and night.
They’re best when they’re warm and fresh out of the oven, but they can be made ahead of time and refrigerated or frozen and easily reheated when convenient.
Biscuits are also one of the most versatile additions to any baker’s repertoire. They can be served by themselves or with any number of 
toppings, including butter, gravy, jams and jellies, honey and so much more.
These recipes are some of my family’s favorites, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy them just as much.
