Pickens Rec thanks TD
For the last year, the Pickens Youth Athletic Corporation has been involved in a fundraising opportunity with TD Bank through the bank’s Affinity Membership Program. The nonprofit received a check on Friday in the amount of $172.83 due to the generous participation of participants and their families. Those interested in helping the organization grow and reach fundraising goals are invited to visit TD Bank in Pickens. For more information, call the Pickens Recreation Department at (864) 878-2296. Grace Jamz
Grace Jamz will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday nights through May at the Grace Methodist Church parking lot across from the church. Anyone who plays a guitar, ukulele, banjo or fiddle is invited to join the jam under the big tents each Thursday. Visitors can bring a lawn chair and instrument and join the church to make a joyful noise in downtown Pickens. The entire community is invited to be a part of the jam session. Liberty duo sign music scholarships with SWU
On Thursday, April 26, Liberty High School’s Josiah Roper and Amelia Owen signed for music scholarships at Southern Wesleyan University. Owen is a clarinetist and bassist and will play with the Southern Wesleyan University instrumental ensembles as a music major. Roper is a bassist and percussionist and will also play in the instrumental ensembles.

Virginia Ann Barrett
EASLEY — Virginia Ann Hardy Barrett, 60, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, April 24, 2018.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Raymond Carl Hardy and the late Doris Virginia Richards Childress, Mrs. Barrett retired from the textile industry and was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church. Ann was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to all. She will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her best friend and companion, James Edward Epps; a son, Christopher Lewis Epps of Liberty; two daughters, April Epps Flanagan (James) and Brittney Latasha Epps, all of Liberty; five
Spring Happenings
Local residents have been taking advantage of the beautiful spring weather, with hundreds flocking to the annual Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative members meeting in Pickens and the opening day of the Six Mile Farmers Market on Thursday, as well as the Central Railroad Festival and the ninth annual Wings and Wheels for Meals at the Pickens County Airport on Saturday. The activities will continue this weekend with the 2018 Blue Ridge Fest, set for 5:30-10:30 p.m. Friday at the Blue Ridge Electric Co-op headquarters in Pickens. ‘Sing Out’ gospel event is Saturday in Pickens
PICKENS — Sing Out: Gospel Music and Historic Churches will be performed at the beautifully renovated Hagood Community Center auditorium this Saturday, May 5, at 7 p.m.
Sing Out will highlight four different groups from the Upstate. The show will open with Young Appalachian Musicians alumni — Danielle Yother, most recently on American Idol and America’s Got Talent, and Ella Hennessee, a singer/player at MerleFest, Hagood Mill and SkunkFest.

Liberty set to host spring festival in May
LIBERTY — The Liberty festivals and events committee and the city of Liberty recently announced the upcoming Celebrate Liberty Spring Festival and the kick-off of Music in the Park.
The Celebrate Liberty Spring Festival is set for Saturday, May 26, from noon-7 p.m. in downtown Liberty.

The members of the Pickens High School Class of 1958 enjoyed their 60th class reunion on Thursday, April 26, at the Gatehouse Restaurant in Pickens. The group enjoyed fellowship abd shared memories.
