Joyce Hayes Forbes

CENTRAL — Joyce Hayes Forbes passed away on May 29, 2018.

She was born June 13, 1957, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to Edward Hayes and Cecelia Isham. She attended Broward Community College obtaining an associates degree before transferring to Barry University.

While there, she met her husband, Carter Forbes, and they married on Aug. 18, 1979. After marrying Carter, they moved to Nassau, Bahamas, where the couple had three children.

The family resided there for 20 years before returning to the United States, living in Marietta, Ga., for many years before ending up in Central.

Joyce loved raising her children in a godly household, being actively involved in church ministry and cooking. She loved the latter so much that she recently graduated with a certificate in culinary arts from Virginia College. She was definitely a Jane of all trades.

She was preceded in death by her father and is survived by her mother.

She is survived by her beloved husband Carter; her three children, Carter Forbes Jr., Jennifer Bryant and Joy Forbes; her twin sister, Judith Davis (Rev. Fredrick Davis) and older twin sisters, LaTriece Fuller and Elise Gainor (William Gainor); her uncle, Abraham Isham (Gloria Isham), and aunt, Alberta Isham; her three grandchildren, Carter Forbes III, Anthony Bryant Jr. and Jada Bryant; her son-in-law, A.J. Bryant, and daughter in-law, Terese Forbes; her sister-in-law, Helen Davis; and brothers-in-law, Robert and Larry Forbes. She is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends in the United States and The Bahamas.

PICKENS — Scout Troop 51 of Pickens recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout to Joseph Clinard and Justin Hemphill.

Eagle is the highest rank in Boy Scouts, and only a very small percentage of scouts reach this lofty goal, as it recognizes many years of dedication and leadership of scouts who have “hiked” the Eagle Trail.

Snacks for the great outdoors

By Olivia Fowler
For the Courier

ofowler@thepccourier.com

Summer is coming, and we all spend a lot of time outside doing a variety of things.

Maybe you’re taking the children swimming, biking or hiking. Or maybe you’re just hitting the trail with friends or touring botanical gardens.

But you will get hungry, and you may not be within easy distance of a snack bar. So, it’s a good idea to pack some snacks that are satisfying and good for you. Also, make sure you take some water. We forget how quickly we can become dehydrated outside, so drink before you get thirsty.

These granola bar recipes are all a little different and you can experiment with a variety of ingredients if you like. Feel free to substitute other dried fruits for those listed here and change up the nuts if these aren’t your favorites.

Have a great time in the great outdoors, and never go hungry.
