Kelly promoted at Tri-County Tech
UPSTATE — Grayson Kelly has been promoted to vice president for institutional advancement and business relations at Tri-County Technical College.
In addition to continuing in his role as executive director of Tri-County Technical College’s Foundation, he now has the added responsibilities of business relationship management with the college’s community partners.
Along with providing direct leadership to the foundation operations and staff, alumni and grants functions of the college. Kelly is working to strengthen partnerships with existing business and industry using an Integrated Workforce Solutions model.
The College’s Integrated Workforce Solutions (IWS) committee engages credit and non-credit divisions in shared governance over numerous Tri-County/employer projects, such as the IBEST Manufacturing and IBEST

Frances Turner Wimpey
PICKENS — Mrs. Frances Turner Wimpey, 91, of Pickens and widow of the late Grady Horace Wimpey, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.
Born on Sept. 27, 1926, in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Elford and Pearl Scruggs Turner. She was a member of Three and Twenty Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and quilting. Mrs. Wimpey was a caring person with a sense of humor. She worked as a private care nurse’s aide for several years and loved her family.
Surviving are her six children, Carolyn Simmons, Tommy G. Wimpey
Pickens coach says Blue Flame ‘a difficult team to contend with’

PICKENS — The Pickens Blue Flame have the first five games of the 2018 season in the books and despite some tough losses, PHS head coach and 
athletic director Chad Smith believes his team is ready to make a run in Region I-4A.
Smith says his kids are ready to start the tough road ahead.
“Our kids are getting better every week,” he said. “If we continue to improve and erase mistakes in critical situations, then we will be a difficult team to contend with going forward.”

LIBERTY — The Liberty Red Devils have reached the midpoint of their season and had a bye week last week to rest up for the region schedule ahead.

Harried’s 243 yards lift Easley to region victory at JL Mann

GREENVILLE — It wasn’t pretty, but all that mattered Friday night for the Easley Green Wave is that they got a region win against J.L. Mann, 21-13.
Senior tailback Jeremy Harried rushed for 243 yards on 23 carries and scored two
touchdowns. He also had another 64-yard touchdown nullified due to penalty.
Speaking of penalties, the officials probably had to ice their arms down after the game, as 24 penalties were accepted during the game, not counting several flags that were called but refused.
“That (game) had a little bit of everything,” Easley coach John Windham said. “It was crazy. We got the lead and they came back and scored. Then we got the lead again. The last drive, we had three big runs that were called back for holding. We had been running the same play, but all of a sudden they called us for holding. Those were tough calls. Highly touted freshman Lawrence named Tigers’ starting QB

CLEMSON — It’s Trevor time in Death Valley.
Clemson announced Monday that freshman Trevor Lawrence has been named the Tigers’ starting quarterback for their game Saturday (noon, ABC) against Syracuse, replacing senior Kelly Bryant.
Lawrence has played in all four games for third-ranked Clemson (4-0, 1-0 ACC) so far, splitting time with Bryant, and the freshman from Cartersville, Ga., has looked the part of his No. 1 overall high school recruit ranking.
His latest performance was against Georgia Tech on Saturday, when he sprung the Tigers’ offense to life and completed 13 of 18 passes for 176 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-21 win over the Yellow Jackets.
Now, he’s earned the starting job — for now.
“After four games, when you look at both of (the quarterbacks), they both have played well, done a lot for us, but it just came down to, you’ve got to reward productivity,” co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott said Monday. “And if you look at his opportunities, he’s taken advantage of them.
