PICKENS — Entering year three of the Chad Smith era at Pickens, the Blue Flame are hoping to continue to build on last season’s successes and learn from last year’s miscues.
The Blue Flame finished 4-7 in 2018, a step up from a two-win rebuilding season the year before, and even made it to the playoffs, losing on the road against eventual state runner-up Greer 35-6 in the first round.
However, the Blue Flame still have plenty of work to do. Last season’s Flame lost three games by one score or less before finally overcoming their late-game demons against Palmetto to clinch their spot in the playoffs. Coach Kyle Stewart returns for another year at the helm and is hoping to continue his successful tenure in charge of the Liberty

However, fans can expect to see a whole lot of changes — hopefully for the better — under new head coach Caleb King, who was hired away in the spring from Havelock (N.C) High School, where his team went 13-1 last season, averaging 59 points a game.
The new coach has emphasized organization, focus and discipline. And he

CENTRAL — The Daniel Lions enter the 2019 football season in the best place they’ve been in nearly half a decade.
Following a return to form 2018 season in which the Lions went 11-2 on their way to the Upper State championship game, expectations remain high for Daniel, and with top players back on both sides of the ball and coach Jeff Fruster entering his fourth year, the Lions don’t expect their renaissance to end any time soon.
The Lions are in a much different spot than they were this time last season, when they were trying to find answers after finishing 2-9 in 2017 and barely squeaking their way into the playoffs. Now, with a taste of success and ever-growing expectations, Fruster continues to push the approach that drove his team last season.
When asked whether the Lions’ success will change anything this season, Fruster was
