EASLEY — Easley will play its closest rival Friday night when the Green Wave trek the six miles into Anderson County to play the high-flying Wren Hurricanes in their home opener.
The Green Wave will look to bounce back after a disappointing performance in the second game versus Daniel, falling, 51-6.
“We’ve got to get ready for another really good football team,” first-year Easley coach Caleb King said after the loss to the Lions. “Wren has a great football team. We’ve got to make sure we are well prepared, better than we were tonight.”
Offensively, the Green Wave have tried to have a balanced attack. Quarterback Kasten Harvey has yet to throw for a score, but has two rushing touchdowns, while only throwing one interception so far this season.
His top target has been freshman receiver Chris Edge, who has 12 catches, but for just 60 yards. Senior Hooper

CENTRAL — Following big wins against county foes Easley and Liberty, the Daniel Lions entered Friday’s contest against the archrival Seneca Bobcats hoping to stay on the right track.
The Lions did that and much more, blowing out the Bobcats at Singleton Field and adding to a string of domination that has seen Daniel outscore its first three opponents 151-26 as it tries to stave off complacency.
“We’re going to continue to focus on us,” Daniel coach Jeff Fruster said. “That’s been our plan the whole time, and that’s what we’re going to continue to do.”
“We’re going to stay hard at work,” senior wide receiver Hack Hamilton added. “We can’t slow down.”
The Lions got off to yet another hot start Friday night, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter to seemingly put the game away before Seneca could even gasp for air.
“My team continues to impress me with the way they come out strong,” Fruster said. “They knew how big of a game this was and what kind of energy Seneca would come out

Plans moving ahead to transform old Easley mill into apartment complex
After more than a decade of planning, the transformation of the old Easley Woodside Mill into an upscale apartment complex is finally set to begin.
That’s the headline. Now let me tell you the story, or at least the bit of it I know.
Once upon a time, there was a man named Harry King. He lived in Easley and made his living buying and selling used textile machinery.
His company was called IP Southern. You may have noticed that name on the water tower of the old Woodside Mill on South 5th Street in Easley.
Sometime in the early 1990s, as the region’s textile industry began to fall on hard times due to cheap foreign imports, Woodside decided to close its Easley mill, which was one of the oldest in its system.
King saw an opportunity in this local tragedy. He bought the mill, and all the equipment inside it, and had sold all the machinery within a few years.
He died in 2007.
King had four daughters — Sophie, Julie, Popie and
