Police: Man stabbed brother

LIBERTY — Police said a man was arrested Monday night after stabbing his brother in Liberty.
Pickens County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chad Brooks said in a news release that deputies were dispatched to a home at 1620 Ruhamah Road around 6 p.m. Monday night.

Fall for the Arts
The city of Easley held its annual Fall for the Arts festival in Old Market Square on Saturday to unofficially kick off 
the local fall festival season.The event featured arts, crafts, farmers market, live music and more for the whole family. The fun will continue at the Pumpkin Festival this weekend in Pumpkintown.

Man sentenced in cousin’s death

PICKENS — A Pickens man was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison last week after admitting to shooting and 
killing his cousin.
Timothy Keith Poole, 42, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and desecration of human remains on Oct. 2, 13th Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins said in a news release.

New jail opening delayed

PICKENS — Sheriff Rick Clark says a problem with doors at the county’s new jail has pushed back the opening of the

School district gets high scores, ratings

Pumpkin Festival planned Saturday

PICKENS — Last year’s Pumpkin Festival drew more than 50,000 people, and festival chairman Buddy Cox expects at 
least that many for the 2019 event.
The 41st annual Pumpkin Festival is set for Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Oolenoy Community House in Pumpkintown.

County officials talk gun control

PICKENS — Local residents and Pickens County Council members spoke out Monday against red flag laws, which they say violate the Second Amendment of the Constitution.
A red flag law is a gun control law that permits police or relatives to petition a state court to order the temporary confiscation of firearms from a person who allegedly presents a danger to others.
Resident Grayson Grant said red flag laws “are extremely unconstitutional.”
He said the laws violate the First and Second Amendments.

Easley Chicken Wars heating up again
Well, it looks like the Easley Chicken Wars are fixin’ to heat up again.
The newest entrant into the fracas, Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen, has been going great guns ever since opening a couple 
of weeks ago. Every time I’ve thought to stop by and get some of their wonderful spicy fried chicken, there’s been a line of cars winding all the way out into the highway. I keep thinking it’ll slow down once the novelty wears off, but it seems as though things are going to be jumping for a while over there.

Lady Blue Flame pick up pair of region victories
PICKENS — The Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame remained undefeated in Region I-4A volleyball play last week, downing Palmetto at home and Wren on the road.
In a match played Sept. 30 in the friendly home confines of Peggy Harden Anthony Gymnasium, the Lady Blue Flame easily defeated the Palmetto Lady Mustangs in three sets, winning 25-9, 25-8, 25-14.
