EASLEY — Coming off a season-defining win against defending Class 4A state champion Wren the previous week, the third-ranked Daniel High School football team had won 12 straight regular-season games heading into Friday night’s non-region contest at county foe Easley.

After a dominant first half in which the Lions outgained Easley 325-77, there was no doubt about a 13th straight, as Daniel cruised to a 48-14 win over the Green Wave.

Without starting quarterback Jackson Crosby for the second week in a row, the Lions (4-0) didn’t miss a beat offensively, with Trent Pearman leading the way once again.

Pearman threw for nearly 300 yards and four touchdowns on the night, as he picked apart the Green Wave secondary. Meanwhile, fellow quarterback Wise Segars shined

EASLEY — Easley fans wanted to know if the Green Wave could bounce back after an emotional loss to archrival Pickens.

Third-ranked Daniel answered that question with a vehement no Friday night, beating the Green Wave, 48-14.

It probably wouldn’t have mattered who Easley played on Friday following the gut-wrenching rivalry loss. The Lions didn’t care and quickly established early momentum on their way to the win. Daniel played three quarterbacks in the game, staying undefeated on the season.

“It wasn’t a good week for us,” Easley coach Jordan Durrah said. “I wasn’t

PICKENS — After last season, the Pickens Blue Flame had still yet to fulfill the promise they had flashed in head coach Chad Smith’s three seasons at the helm of the program.

A 4-7 playoff berth in 2018 notwithstanding, Smith also saw a pair of two-win seasons in his short tenure and had had trouble getting kids to come out for the football program.

Seeing changes needed to be made, Smith moved assistant coach Blake Dyar to offensive coordinator in the offseason, and the Blue Flame moved away from Smith’s traditional Wing-T attack. Now, just three games into the 2020 season, the Blue Flame are already reaping the rewards

Shorthanded Red Devils struggle in shutout road loss

LIBERTY — Coming off of a nail-biting loss to Ninety Six in its season opener, Liberty had a chance for redemption against the Christ Church Cavaliers on Friday night.

However, the undefeated Cavaliers proved to be more than a match for the Red Devils, handing Liberty a 51-0 road loss.

Coming off the close loss the previous week, Liberty head coach Kyle Stewart hoped the Red Devils could at least put themselves in a similar position and have a chance to win, but the Cavaliers proved to be a worthy adversary in the rout.

Though there are certainly no such thing as moral victories when it comes

CLEMSON — After walk-on quarterback Hunter Helms was leading scoring drives and even punter Will Spiers was taking snaps behind center, it was hard to remember the Clemson football team got off to a shaky start Saturday at Georgia Tech.

In the end, though, it ended up being one of the most dominant performances in program history.

Despite coughing up two turnovers in the opening quarter, the Tigers took control of the contest
