Light Up Liberty contest is underway
LIBERTY — Liberty Festivals and Events and the city of Liberty have announced the Light Up Liberty competition to encourage a festive 2020 holiday season.
Residents, churches and businesses are requested to decorate the outside of their buildings by this Friday, Dec. 4.
A winner will be selected in house, church and business categories. For more information, visit libertyscevents.com.
Vaccine race shows US still leads
It’s encouraging to see the international efforts to develop vaccines against COVID-19. China and Russia are trying to keep pace with the West in that scientific race, which includes research sites in Charleston. The safe,

Pickens Dental Associates celebrating 35th birthday
PICKENS — On Dec. 2, 1985, Dr. Dan Hinton and Dr. Don Marler opened the doors to their new dental office in Pickens.
Hinton and Marler first met in 1980, when they began dental school together at the Medical University of South Carolina. The Hintons and Marlers became fast friends during dental school.

Six Mile bazaar and benefit for Jasy Donald is Saturday
SIX MILE — If you are ready to do some local Christmas shopping, how about helping someone in need in the process?

This Saturday, Dec. 5, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. a special Christmas bazaar and benefit will be held at the Six Mile town fire depot, located at 102 N. Main St. in Six Mile.
Jasy’s Journey is a fundraiser for Jasy Donald, a local 14-year-old who is suffering with 90 percent kidney failure. Jasy and her family live in the Central/Six Mile area. Jasy has recently been featured on a local television newscasts as she fights her battle with kidney desease and waits on a kidney donation.
More than 20 local vendors will be on site with unique Christmas gifts, decorations, stocking stuffers and baked goods. Hot dog lunches will be available for purchase.

• Christmas events set in Dacusville
Dacusville will soon be getting into the Christmas spirit with the annual Christmas tree lighting event and Christmas parade in December. The tree lighting event will be held at 7 p.m Dec. 11 at the old Dacusville school on Earls Bridge Road. The annual Christmas parade will be the next day on Saturday, Dec. 12, beginning at 2 p.m.

ANN WILLIAMS SMITH
PICKENS— Ann Williams Smith, 79, of Pickens, passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2020.
Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Leila Golden Smith and wife of 
the late Truman Williams and Charles Edgar Smith. Mrs. Smith graduated from Seneca High School and retired from Cornell Dubilier before she became a full-time grandmother who took care of a village of grandchildren. She was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Julie Trull (Gary) and Susan Dunaway; her son, Terry Williams (Emily); stepson, Charles “Hub” Smith (Patsy); stepdaughter Joan Summey (John); brother, Steve Smith; sister, Margaret Gibson; grandchildren, Angie Durham, Zachary Dunaway, T.J. Williams, Katie W. Hamilton, Tessa Dunaway, Chloe Dunaway and Gracie Williams; and great-grandchildren, Anna Claire and Caroline Durham, Allie and Hank Williams. She is also survived by her very special caregiver, Mary Javdan-Inaloo, as well as many loving step-grandchildren and other family members.
Funeral services were held on Nov. 27 at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels.
