CENTRAL — Following a 2-9 season as freshmen in 2017, the Daniel High School football team’s senior class faced stilted expectations in the coming years.

However, in the three years since, the team has thrived under head coach Jeff Fruster, including Friday night’s 52-14 win over Belton Honea-Path that clinched the Western 3A region title and the Lions’ second straight region crown — a feat the program last achieved in 2012 and 2013.

“He never wavered,” Daniel senior linebacker Jacob Hendricks said of Fruster. “He stared adversity right in the face and said, ‘We have the guys to

However, that wasn’t the case for the Easley Green Wave on Friday ngiht against the Travelers Rest Devildogs, as they found themselves on the short end of a 32-12 game.

“Our defense played awesome,” said first-year Easley coach Jordan Durrah, who is still looking for his first win at the helm. “I hate the fact that we couldn’t get it done offensively. Our defense was outstanding tonight.”

The win keeps Travelers Rest’s playoff hopes alive and keeps Easley

By Clay Counts

LIBERTY — Just three games into this strange season, the Liberty Red Devils have fought hard trying to get their first victory.

Although shut out by Christ Church in their second game, the Devils had shown some impressive fight in week one against Ninety Six, and through one quarter of last week’s homecoming game against Crescent, Liberty managed to hold the lead.

However, the Tigers responded with a huge second quarter before eventually pulling away to take a 40-8 victory.

“We had some missed assignments for sure, which hurt,” Liberty coach Kyle Stewart said. “We would have a

CLEMSON — It wasn’t always pretty, but the Clemson football team was able to hold off an upset attempt from Syracuse on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

The top-ranked Tigers (6-0, 5-0 ACC) entered Saturday afternoon’s game as 46-point favorites over the Orange (1-5, 1-4). The underdogs put up a good fight, but the Tigers pulled away late in the game for a 47-21 victory.

“There are a lot of things we need to clean up, but I’m really proud of our team for how they responded,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. “It was aYou must be logged in to view this content.
