Concert and BBQ cook off planned for Nov. 14

PICKENS — The Country Folks Will Survive Concert and BBQ Cook Off in Pickens on Nov. 14 will offer local residents a chance to party, tailgate style.

Gates will open for BBQ competitors at noon Friday, Nov. 13, and attendees at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14.

SWU awarded $2.25M grant

CENTRAL — Southern Wesleyan University was awarded a U.S. Department of Education grant that will help instructors to better equip and engage students.

The Department of Education notified Southern Wesleyan University Sept. 28 that it had been awarded the Title III: Strengthening Institutions grant in the amount of $450,000 per year for the next five years for a total of $2.25 million.

19-year-old charged in deadly wreck

EASLEY — A 19-year-old Easley man is facing charges in connection with a collision Friday that killed a Moore man.

The accident occurred at 12:22 p.m. Friday on S.C. Highway 183, approximately 3.1 miles south of Dacusville, according to Trooper Joe Hovis with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
