Korean War vets asked to take part in Honor Flight

GREER — The Upstate Honor Flight organization is looking for Korean War veterans in South Carolina as it prepares for a trip to the Korean War Wall of Remembrance on July 27.

The flight is the award for South Carolina raising $200,000 for the 576 South Carolinians who were either killed in action or prisoners of war in the Korean War, according to a press release from retired South Carolina Sen.

Potato Salad recipes are summer favorites

We’re all familiar with traditional potato salad in the South, and it is delicious. But there are  many variations on this delicious dish.

The one thing all of these recipes have is common is the humble potato. There is probably an interpretation of this old friend that will be a welcome addition to your kitchen.

As for the potatoes, some are peeled, some are not. The dressings vary from creamy to light. Some are tangy and some are slightly sweet. And some are hot and others cold.

But they are all recognizable as our old favorite, potato salad. Enjoy.

Easley woman charged with murder

EASLEY — An Easley woman is charged with murder  in the death of an Easley man reported missing last week.

Amber Christine Fernandez Cruz, 33, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to a release from Anderson County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Stephen Combs.

Man accused of firing at deputy now behind bars

COUNTY — A Seneca man who authorities said shot at an Oconee County Sheriff’s Office deputy before eventually evading police near Norris was behind bars in Pickens County on Tuesday.

Christopher Lee O’Donald, 38, was caught late Friday in Hampton County, northeast of Beaufort and Hilton Head, according to a news release from Oconee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jimmy Watt.
