CENTRAL — It had been a rough week for the Daniel High School boys’ soccer team heading into their matchup with Walhalla on Friday night.
The Lions had lost two close matchups with Powdersville and Greenville, but watching them run past the Razorbacks 5-1, it would be hard to fathom the Lions losing to anyone.

John Harden Scholarship applications now available
PICKENS — Cannon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is now accepting applications for the John Harden Scholarship.
The $1,000 scholarship, established in memory of Dr. John M. Harden, is awarded annually to a person continuing their education to work in a health care field. Eligible candidates are students from Pickens High School, Liberty High School and Lakeview Christian School.
Also eligible are employees and volunteers of Cannon Memorial Hospital

Riding in style
Market at the Mill officials held a surprise fundraiser to benefit one of their own, Pickens County resident Mike Hart, presenting him with with an electric scooter on Valentine’s Day weekend. The scooter was presented to Hart by Brian Barner at the Market at the Mill on Feb. 12. Some store vendors and other caring people in the community made this day possible. Hart has medical issues and needs a mobility scooter to get around better. “This is a blessing and will make my life easier,” Hart said. Hart was very thankful to all the people who donated.

March 11 is the date for the Rudy Hayes Fishers of Men Wild Game Supper at Red Hill Baptist Church. Guest speaker will be Bass Masters chaplain Chris Wells, and New Dixie Storm, a local bluegrass band, will be providing the music entertainment. There will be door prizes, vendors to meet and wild game and other delicious foods, and it is all is free. keep the carrots coming

For some reason, I associate carrots with spring.
Their bright color adds a cheerful note to a dinner plate. This week’s recipes include a carrot salad, roasted carrots, a carrot vegetable medley and, of course, a yummy carrot cake.
I like this carrot cake because it includes pineapple, apple sauce and raisins in the batter. It’s very moist, a No. 1 requirement for cake. I don’t put coconut in my carrot cake, but that’s just a personal preference.
I hope you’ll enjoy these recipes this spring. Feel free to improve upon them any way you like.
