Riding in style
Market at the Mill officials held a surprise fundraiser to benefit one of their own, Pickens County resident Mike Hart, presenting him with with an electric scooter on Valentine’s Day weekend. The scooter was presented to Hart by Brian Barner at the Market at the Mill on Feb. 12. Some store vendors and other caring people in the community made this day possible. Hart has medical issues and needs a mobility scooter to get around better. “This is a blessing and will make my life easier,” Hart said. Hart was very thankful to all the people who donated.

• Wild game supper planned at Red Hill
March 11 is the date for the Rudy Hayes Fishers of Men Wild Game Supper at Red Hill Baptist Church. Guest speaker will be Bass Masters chaplain Chris Wells, and New Dixie Storm, a local bluegrass band, will be providing the music entertainment. There will be door prizes, vendors to meet and wild game and other delicious foods, and it is all is free. Everyone is invited to join for the event, set to start at 6 p.m. March 11 at Red Hill Baptist Church,
keep the carrots coming

For some reason, I associate carrots with spring.
Their bright color adds a cheerful note to a dinner plate. This week’s recipes include a carrot salad, roasted carrots, a carrot vegetable medley and, of course, a yummy carrot cake.
I like this carrot cake because it includes pineapple, apple sauce and raisins in the batter. It’s very moist, a No. 1 requirement for cake. I don’t put coconut in my carrot cake, but that’s just a personal preference.
I hope you’ll enjoy these recipes this spring. Feel free to improve upon them any way you like.
