Library kicks off summer program
COUNTY — The Pickens County Library System recently announced the return of its annual summer reading program.
This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities.” The program began on June 6 and runs until July 31. All Pickens County residents were set to receive a postcard in the mail that included a summer reading log.
To complete the program, participants can choose to read 10 books, complete 10 activities or a combination of both options to equal 10. Once all 10 activities are completed, postcards can be returned to any library location. More postcards will be available at all library branches.
After completing the summer reading program, participants ages 17 and younger will receive an “Oceans of Possibilities” prize pack, as well as have their name entered into a drawing for more prizes. Adults who complete the summer reading program will receive a PCLS tote bag (while supplies last) and an entry into a drawing for prizes. Visit the library system website at pcls.fyi for a list of possible prizes.
The library will also have special performances all summer long, which will include musical theater, storytelling, crafts, live animal presentations and more.
For a schedule of performances, pick up a calendar at any library location or visit pcls.fyi.

Enhance grilled meats with marinades
By Olivia Fowler
For the Courier
ofowler@thepccourier.com
If you want to make your own marinades for grilling, it isn’t difficult. Marinades can do a lot of things to improve grilled meats, which can be dry and leathery. The flavors of the marinade don’t overpower the meat, but do help tenderize and keep meats moist.
Make sure the meat is done, but don’t overcook. You know your grill best and the temperatures needed to get the best from whatever recipe you cook.
I hope you enjoy these.
