Annual oyster roast to be held March 9
EASLEY — St. Michael’s Episcopal Church will host its annual oyster roast on Saturday, March 9 from 2-5 p.m., at 1200 Powdersville Rd. in Easley.
Proceeds from the event benefit multiple charitable organizations in Pickens County.
Attendees enjoy all-you-can-eat oysters, brunswick stew, sides and beverages (photo ID required). If oysters aren’t your favorite, the event also offers many additional food options.
Tickets are $45 for adults, $10 for children 6-11 and free

Whittemore awarded Order of the Palmetto

EASLEY — Longtime Easley public servant David Whittemore said receiving the state’s highest civilian honor was “the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me.”
“I am so honored and humbled by this,” he said.
In recognition of decades of service to his community, Whittemore was awarded the Order of the Palmetto Sunday afternoon at Easley Presbyterian Church.
In his invocation, Rev. Dr. Bill Seel thanked God “for the joy of his occasion.”

Local man accused of killing dogs

COUNTY — A man faces charges from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources in connection with the 
death of three rabbit-hunting dogs last fall.
According to a DNR news release, three beagles were reportedly shot and killed in the Dacusville area on Nov. 23.
SCDNR officers arrived on scene after the dogs’ deaths were reported and collected evidence, the release said.
Officers arrested Pickens County resident David Andrew Healy on Feb. 3, according to the release.
Healy is charged with three first-offense counts of ill treatment of animals and one first-offense charge of entry on another’s land without permission to hunt, fish or trap, the release said.
The ill treatment charges are felony offenses that each carry a potential penalty of up to five years and a $5,000 fine upon conviction, the release said.
The investigation is ongoing.
Devils fall to Chesnee at Upper State

CHESNEE — Falling behind 31-13 through nine weight classes, the Liberty wrestling team was in for an uphill battle against the Chesnee Eagles during the Class 2A Upper State championship on Feb. 7. The Red Devils 
managed to battle back but were unable to match the Eagles on the mat as they fell 36-30 to end their bid to repeat as state champions.
The Eagles got off to a strong start early getting first period pins at both 215 and heavyweight to get an early 12-0 advantage. Liberty battled right back with Alex Allison getting a third period pin at 106 and Jonah Pierce overcoming an injury for a major decision at 113 to cut the lead to 15-13.
