Historical Society seeks documents related to Hagood-Mauldin House

PICKENS — The archivists of the Pickens County Historical Society are currently looking for any documents, original letters, photographs, maps or anything related to the history of the Hagood Mill Historic Site, the Hagood-Mauldin House Museum and the Pickens County Historical Society.

Additional files are being created for these that will be maintained in the new research room known as the Judge’s Office at the Hagood-Mauldin House on Lewis Street in uptown Pickens. Once organized, the facility will be open to the public in the coming months.

According to PCHS chief genealogist Anne Sheriff, it is critical that this information be gathered from the public, researched, organized and properly stored for everyone to access now and in the years to come.

“You and your family probably treasure these things that you have, but we have seen all too often that eventually, especially after someone’s passing, they are simply thrown away and lost forever,” a news release from the PCHS said.

Anyone with any such documentary material is asked to contact the Pickens County Historical Society at pickenscohistory@gmail.com or (864) 878-1322. The historical society will make copies for the original owners or copies for its files if the owners want to keep the originals.

The Hagood-Mauldin House Museum and grounds are open to the public for free tours on the third Saturday of each month, April through October. To arrange private tours, call (864) 878-1322.
