Pickens councilman Nealy resigns

PICKENS — The longest-tenured member of Pickens City Council announced his resignation on Tuesday, saying the city is “on a course that I no longer wish to be a part of.”
Robert Nealy, the only sitting member of council with more than one term of experience, announced his immediate resignation in a letter to Pickens Mayor

Man killed in Easley shooting

EASLEY — A 21-year-old man died after a shooting in Easley on Saturday night.
The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at 123 Donna Lane in Easley, according to Pickens County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chad Brooks.

Joint water system still on track despite Pickens withdrawl
PICKENS — Two weeks after the City of Pickens decided to remove itself from the Pickens Regional Joint Water System (PRJWS), the joint water system has released a statement saying it still plans to build its water transmission system.

Short film aims to spotlight mental health issues

COUNTY — A local author and filmmaker is using a personal loss as a way to raise awareness about mental health,

Panthers Fan Fest a success in team’s return to Clemson

CLEMSON — The Carolina Panthers returned Thursday evening to where it all began — Clemson’s Memorial Stadium.
The NFL team based out of Charlotte, N.C., returned to the stadium — the site of the team’s home games during its inaugural 1995 season — for its annual Fan Fest as it prepares for its 30th season, which will kick off next month.

U.S. Army, Clemson working to reinforce Lake Hartwell dams

CLEMSON — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), in coordination with Clemson University officials, are working on dam safety related to the Clemson Lower Diversion Dam Saddle Dike on Hartwell Lake in response to a recent periodic assessment.

Upstate Field of Honor to be hosted in Pickens County later this month
EASLEY – The Foothills Civitan Club and the Dacusville Community Club will co-host the Upstate’s first Field of Honor from Friday, Aug. 30 through Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Six Mile Elementary opens new wing
On July 30, Six Mile Elementary held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new addition. Construction on the new wing began in 2023 and adds 15,000 sqaure feet of space to house preschool classes at the school. This new wing is open and began serving students when the School District of Pickens County opened its school year on Aug. 1.
